A SUNRAYSIA woman has become one of the first people in Australia to be fitted with a groundbreaking new hearing implant.

The elderly patient underwent surgery at Mildura Health Private Hospital last week and will now wait about a month for the implant to fuse to her skull so that it can be turned on.
