A NEW public hospital worth hundreds of millions of dollars would be the "project of a lifetime" for most Mildura residents, its hospital chief predicted on Friday.

This week's State Budget announcement of a $2 million feasibility study into Mildura getting a new, state-of-the-art hospital has opened the prospect of enormous employment, infrastructure and social benefits for north-west Victoria.
