RED CLIFFS

A FIELD of 39 golfers contested the midweek Stableford competition on Wednesday under perfect winter conditions, with Oscar Finch delivering an impressive round of 45 points to claim the overall win, proudly sponsored by the Golf Club.

Jack Crowe followed closely, finishing runner-up on countback with 40 points. Notably, Crowe’s round included a spectacular hole-in-one on the 8th hole, earning him the Great Score prize.

Balls: (7) 40 to 36 points on a countback.

Thirteen women teed off in the ladies Stableford event last Wednesdsay, with Jan Lloyd and Julie Warne both recording 35 points, with Lloyd winning on countback to be declared the overall winner.

In a standout performance, Erica Vowles from Gunghalin Lakes Golf Club posted a commanding score of 41 points to top the placegetters, ahead of Deirdre Merlin’s 31 points.

NTPs: 12th: Jill Gleeson – Red Cliffs Bakery (69cm), 15th: Jill Gleeson – Bread & Butter Prize (129cm).

Saturday’s 4BBB medley Stableford attracted a strong field of 84 players. Victory went to Jamie Wood and Paul Legg, scoring an excellent 48 points on countback, just edging out Steven Forrest and Rodney Begg to claim the runner-up voucher.

Balls: (16) 47 to 43 points on a coutnback.

RIVERSIDE

A FIELD of 61 golfers competed on Sunday, July 6, in the medley Stableford which required three grades.

Davison Mbindi battled it out to claim the win over Ryan Samaras when both came in with 39 points in A Grade.

George Moraitis finished on 38 points to collect the B Grade win, from Scoffy Atkinso, on 37 points.

A mighty 40 points gave Bruno Zappia a comfortable win in C Grade in front of Ian Davis’s 36 points.

Balls: (15) 34 points on a countback.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Dean Vance 70cm, 7th – Claude Dawson 623cm, 12th – Davison Mbindi 90 cm and 18th Jason Spratt 93.5 cm.

Last Tuesday’s medley Stableford was won by Joel Doherty on 37 points with the runner-up, Luke Jeffers, undergoing a countback against Harvey Spratt, both carding 36 points.

NTPs: 4th – Xavier Erskine 305cm and 18th – Cooper Mitchell 800cm.

Wednesday’s par event was also contested in three grades, with A Grade requiring a countback to determine Graeme Southwell the winner over Will Anderson, both on +1.

Jason Marks had +3 to have the top score in B Grade from Grant Giddings on +1 after a countback with Ken Upton.

Some great scores also came from C Grade with Laurie Riordan using his luck to grab the win on a countback from brother George, both on +3.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Sam Longeri 250cm, 7th – Lucas Byron 150cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Graeme Southwell 413cm and Good Deal Tyres 18th – Sam Longeri 480cm.

It would be hard to say that the ladies enjoyed playing their Foursomes Championships on Thursday, as the weather conditions were freezing and the wind was brutal for the whole 27 holes.

Margie Lampard and Tracey Bryan were declared the 27-hole Ladies Foursomes Scratch and A Grade Champions after they completed a winning round of 146, nine shots in front of runners-up Cariline James and Suzy Conquest on 155.

The B Grade Scratch winners were Marie Hudak and Lyn Thompson with 187 on a countback from Gaye Briggs and Selma Mayne 187.

In the handicap, Margie and Tracey just snuck home to win A Grade on 117.75 net, with Tracy Lee and Maree Irvin close behind on 119.25 net.

Marie and Lyn also made it a double by winning the B Grade handicap on 128.5 net, with Gaye and Selma just missing out once again.

The ladies have also been playing out the Peral Dobson Memorial Match Play Championships over the past few weeks.

A Grade: Adel Dal Corobbo defeated Wendy Dawson 2 /1; Tracy Lee defeated Chitra Rankin 5 /3.

B Grade: Maree Irvin defeated Lyn Thompson 5 /3; Rose Gilardi moved to the finals on a forfeit from Pat Riordan.

Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford was won by Lisa Garioch with 21 points. Geoff Plant was runner-up, with Ryan Rigby and Rob Garioch missing out on a countback, all on 19 points.

Balls: (15) 16 points.

It was a medley Ambrose in threes on Saturday, with 54.833 net the winning score from the group of Leigh Fuller, Seb Raiti and Ash Whitehouse. Runners-up went to Trent Gebhart, Cooper Mitchell and Alex Spooner on 56 net. The third place went to Reece Merlin Ricky Loveridge and Ryan Samaras with 56.167 net.

NTPs: Mallee Food 4th – Damen Southgate 112cm, Mallee Foods 7th – Grant Giddings 310cm, Mallee Foods 12th – Rob Arnold 210cm and Mallee Foods 18th – Chris Curley 65cm.

MILDURA

LAST Tuesday the ladies played monthly medal with Marg Morrison taking a comfortable win with 70 net from Jenny McCoy on 73 net.

Balls: (4) 70 to 77 net.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate — Helen Treacy 1700cm, 10th Trentham Estate — Ruth Rodi 57cm, 12th Zizlie Wines — Carla Sherriff 450cm.

On Wednesday the men played a 4BBB Stableford event with David Merry and Corey Fitzpatrick taking the win with 45 points from Rob Gooch and Nicholas Cavallo one shot behind with 44 points.

Balls: (21) 45 to 41 points on a countback.

NTPs: 2nd Pig — Bruce McEwan 283cm, 12th Zilzie Wines — James Murphy 170cm.

The ladies played an 18 hole Stableford event on Friday with Mabel Crouch taking the win on 31 points from Helen Treacy with 30 points.

Balls: (2) 31 to 30 points.

Saturday was the TWW/Ransoms monthly medal stroke played in three grades.

A Grade: Neville Hodgetts 70 net on a countback from runner-up Robert Fuoco, with Rob Toms third with 70 net.

B Grade: Simon Kelly 67 net, runner-up Damien Argiro 70 net, third Peter Cottrell 71 net.

C Grade: Will Lazo 66 net, runner-up Nino Zappia 69 net, third Jacob Purdue 72 net.

Balls: (29) 67 net to 75 net on a countback.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure — Edward Parker 38cm, 2nd Pig — Simon Kelly 100cm, 12th Zilzie Wines — Wayne Gill 85cm.

TWW Eagles Nest: Maurice Warn on the 13th hole, 12 balls.

The Ranfurly: Neville Hodgetts nine points.

WENTWORTH

LAST Thursday’s competition was abandoned due to lack of numbers.

Sunday’s Stableford was won by Gary Bourke with 36 points from runner-up Bill Slee, a distant seven points behind with 29 points (playing with the pink ball). A countback for third went to Glen Walker with the Pink Ball going to Vicki Appleton.

NTP: 17th — Gary Bourke 560cm.

Tee-off is every Thursday and Sunday at 9.30am playing Stableford and visitors are most welcome.

With 18 grassed fairways, tees and greens, lots of kangaroos and emus and a warm licensed clubhouse, Wentworth is a great golfing experience.
