Red Cliffs Golf Club Weekly Wrap: Stellar Scores and Sharp Shots on Show.

Wednesday, 9 April 2025 – Men’s & Ladies’ Stableford Competitions.

Red Cliffs Golf Club was brimming with talent last Wednesday as both men and women took to the GA Course for their respective Stableford events. With 41 men and 24 ladies competing, the scores reflected both consistency and flashes of brilliance.

In the Men’s Stableford, Neville Birch stole the show in Grade A, topping the leaderboard with an impressive 39 points playing off a handicap of 12. He was closely followed by Neville Walker, who scored 38 points on countback.

Grade B saw a standout performance from Jack Crowe, who carded a massive 46 points off a 20 handicap, well ahead of the field. Michael Englefield followed with 40 points, also off 20, earning runner-up honours.

Notable mentions in the placings include Geoffrey Smith and Simon Trembath, both carding 38 points on countback, and Jimmy Milsom, who scored a strong 37.

Nearest the Pin winners for the men’s event were:

• Hole 8: Michael Englefield – 91 cm (Chemist Warehouse)

• Hole 12: Michael Hogan – 617 cm (Lucky Dip)

• Hole 15: Glen Goldup – 431 cm (John Gooch Ball)

• Hole 17: Graham Lohmeyer – 377 cm (Drummond Golf).

Michael Englefield also claimed “The Pig” award for the day.

In the Ladies’ Stableford, Jill Gleeson led the Grade A field with 38 points off a 14 handicap, narrowly edging out Catherine Lanigan, who also scored 38 but missed on countback.

Grade B was won by Deirdre Merlin with 35 points, while Helen Wood came in runner-up with 32 points.

Other strong showings included Caroline James with 37 points and Lee Bottomley, who carded 36.

The weekend saw a special Captain’s Day Four-Ball Better Ball event with a strong turnout of 67 competitors. Partnerships were the name of the game, and scores were tight across the board.

Michael Hogan & Simon Rodgers came out on top with 45 points, just ahead of Gary Nunn & Kevin Leach, who recorded 44 points on countback.

Thursdays Comp was a non-event for numerous reasons.

However we did play on Sunday at the new tee-off time of 9:30.

Winner on the day was G Walker with a 3 over-par 33 points.

Second was B Slee on 32 and third-again-was Vicki Appleton on 24.

The pink ball went to Jeff Hatfield and there were no NTP’s.

We are playing on Thursday but not next Easter Sunday.
