MILDURA 

LAST Wednesday the men played a Stableford event in three grades, with 90 players taking the course. 

The A Grade winner was Geoff Hazeldine on 38 points from Robert Pallot on a countback with Mark Woodhouse, both on 37 points. 

David Healy cleaned up in B Grade with 36 points from Rod Ford on a countback with Andy Stanbrook, both with 33 points. 

The C Grade winner was Geoff Dea with 39 points from runner-up Bruce McEwan on 37 points with Tony Dal Corobbo third with 33 points. 

Balls: 22 points on a countback. 

NTPs: 2nd Pig – Joseph Rocca 445cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Wayne Manley 343cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Henry Hartmann 128cm. 

TWW Eagles Nest – Bruce McEwan 12th (two balls). 

On Friday the ladies played an 18-hole Stableford event and Glenda Hiskins scored 34 points to take the win from runner-up Gayle Ford on a countback from Kerry Harris, both on 32 points. 

The medley Stableford event on Saturday had 134 players taking the course playing in three grades, with some good scores coming in. 

A Grade was won by Wayne Gill with 43 points from runner-up Tom Crouch on 40 points with the consistent Maurice Warn third with 39 points. 

Harvey Spratt also had 43 points to win B Grade from runner-up Ross Pointon on 41 points with Stephen Lush third on 39 points. 

John Harvey graced the podium in C Grade with 42 points from Tim Donaldson runner-up on 40 points with Nino Zappia third with 39 points. 

Balls: (33) 36 points on a countback. 

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure – Ron Casey 45cm, 2nd Pig – Jake Cameron 290cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Jeff Lay 750cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Allan McAskill 66cm.

RIVERSIDE 

ON Tuesday, November 26, the ladies played a nine-hole Stableford event with Lauris Hicks taking the win with 15 points from runner-up Pat Riordan on a countback with Chitra Rankin, both on 14 points. 

NTP: 4th – Lauris Hicks 240cm. 

It was par for the members and visitors last Wednesday played in two grades, with a countback deciding the winners and placegetters in both grades, all on +4. 

Frank Taperell came out with the win in A Grade over runner-up Jason Marks, while Ryan Rigby snared the B Grade win over runner-up Peter Welling. 

Balls: Went out to -1. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Ray Cottle 68cm, 7th – Rory Nutter 350cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Chris O’Brien 580cm, Deakin Estate Wines 18th – Ash Robinson 140cm. 

On Thursday the ladies played stroke and Adel Dal Corobbo came in with 95/71 to win from runner up May Connolly on 112/74. 

NTPs: 12th – Lirlene Crozier 230cm, 18th – Wendy Dawson 48cm. 

Lindsay Mammone had 21 points in the nine-hole medley Stableford on Friday to take the win from Callum Winslow on 20 points. 

Lyn Delmenico had 35 points on Saturday in the ladies Stableford event to win comfortably from Tracey Bryan on 32 points. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Chitra Rankin 178cm, 7th – Wendy Dawson 525cm, 12th – Wendy Dawson 210cm, 18th – Tracey Bryan 131cm. 

A countback was needed to determine the winner of A and B grades in Saturday’s men’s Stableford. 

Steven Smith had the better back nine in A Grade to seize the win from Josh Fleming, both with 36 points. 

Harvey Spratt and Nathan Darby had sensational rounds of 41 points in B Grade, with Spratt capturing the win from Darby. 

Nathan Walder had 39 points in C Grade which handed him a comfortable win in front of Todd George, who snuck in for second after a countback with Gavin Jackson, both on 36 points. 

Balls: 33 points on a countback. 

Alex Spooner recorded an eagle on the par four 10th. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Ian Fleming 235cm, 7th – Jayden Smith 50cm, 12th – Ned Klemm 280cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Keenan Wade 158cm, Deakin Estate Wines 18th – David Williams 60cm. 

Sunday’s medley Stableford was played in two grades and Dom Scullino had an outright win in A Grade with 37 points. 

But a three-way countback was needed to declare Ian Fleming the runner-up over Steve Scullino and Bruce Liddell, all on 35 points. 

It was similar in B Grade with Alex Heuzenroeder taking the win with 41 points, while there were three vying for second place. 

Harry Heuzenroeder was the lucky one, leaving Nic Carins and Kane Heeps just missing out, all finishing with 36 points. 

Balls: 34 points or better. 

The par five 2nd hole was eagled by Craig George. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Brendan Love 320cm, 7th – Adam Keil 160cm, 18th – Andrew Thomas 355cm. 


COOMEALLA 

DUE to course maintenance on the front nine all competitions will play the back nine holes twice. 

This Wednesday the men play Stableford for the Monthly Mug and the women also play a Stableford event; Friday is a nine-hole medley Stableford; Saturday the men have their Monthly Medal stroke event and the women also play stroke; Sunday is an 18-hole medley Stableford. 

Wednesday’s medley Stableford: A Grade: Ross Robertson 39 points, runner-up Alan Scorer 38 points, third Mark McDonald 38 points. 

B Grade: Terry Jones 38 points, runner-up Robert Marshall 38 points, third Frank Boseley 38 points.

RED CLIFFS 

THE medley Stableford competition held last Wednesday had 45 players take the course under fine conditions played in two grades. 

A Grade: Roger Walder 39 points, runner-up Brad Morgan 35 points. 

B Grade: Ron Baird 34 points, runner-up Allan Brown 33 points. 

NTPs: 3rd Lindemans Wine – Suzanne Johns, 630cm, 8th Chemist – Sandra Marwood 385cm, Alistair Rayner 371cm, 12th Lucky Dip – Neville Birch 202cm, 12th Red Cliffs Bakery – Lee Bottomley 134cm, 15th Bread & Butter Bakery – Glenys Murray 33cm, 15th John Gooch ball – Neville Birch 202cm, 17th Gio’s Coffee voucher – Suzanne Johns 101cm, 18th Red Cliffs Club – Nathan Riordan 440cm. 

A medley Stableford was played on Saturday and it was first round of the Ray competition with 62 golfers competing. 

A Grade: Glen Goldup 42 points, runner-up Kay Hart 40 points. 

B Grade: Ian Doering 39 points, runner-up Helen Wood 38 points.

Sunday’s medley Stableford was won by Zaviar Grennan with 42 points from runner-up Rueban Shirmack with 34 points. 

Third was Ryder Evans on 33 points who received a ball. 

NTPs: 8th – Matthew Forward 372cm, 17th – Matthew Forward 483cm. 


WENTWORTH 

LAST Thursday’s event was changed to a Stableford competition instead of the gazetted stroke. 

Glen Walker scored a very humbling 12 on the front nine, wiped the 10th then came home with 21 on the last eight holes to card a 33 and go on to win the day. 

Captain Bill Slee came home in second place with 31 for the beer and Jeff Woodrofe (back from a 10-week break) was third with 25 points. 

Howard Hankinson had 22 points to win the Mr Risky award. 

Sunday was a Stableford competition with a good turnout of players, including Gary Clarke from Pooncarie who often makes the trip down to play. 

Max Hodges has the whole repertoire of golf shots in his bag and uses them all and often his variety of shots pays off, as it did on Sunday. 

Max carded a Stableford score of 36 points win the event from runner-up Glen Walker with 34 points, with Gary Clarke in third place. 

Veteran Bill Murray won the wine for NTP on the 8th with a distance of 920cm. 

The Mr Risky pink ball went to Bill Slee on a countback from Jeff Hatfield. 

Tuesday’s nine-hole Chicken Run tees off between 5-5.30pm; Thursday is stroke and Sunday a Stableford event with tee off at 9.45am. 


MERBEIN 

THE greens have been more receptive after the recent rain and the scores have indicated this. 

Al Gourlay, Ethan Gray, Jack Hibberd, Daniel Tung and Bailey Gray will be completing “The Longest Day” golf challenge supporting cancer research on Saturday, playing 72 holes of golf one day. 

You can donate to the cause online via the Longest Day website and search “Merbein Bandits” or you can donate on the day. 

There will be a raffle on the day with all proceeds going to this worthy cause. 

Shane Cordell won last Wednesday’s Stableford with 39 points from runner-up Adrian Rudd on 34 points. 

Ball: Mark Holding 33 points. 

NTP: 3rd AV Wines – Greg Marshall 110cm. 

Friday’s nine-hole winner was Jenny Jess with 20 points. 

Saturday’s Stableford winner was Jason Binding with 40 points from runner-up Steve Farley on 39 points on a countback. 

Ball: Jim Piper 39 points. 

NTPs: 3rd AV Wines – Peter Hahn 332cm, 8th Drummond Golf – Steve Farley 396cm, 12th G&T Schnitzels – Abe Nemes 105cm, 16th – Graeme Kerr 290cm. 

The meat raffle was won by Kez Neindorf. 

This Wednesday is Stableford and Friday is Stableford on the front nine. 


VETERANS 

THE last Sunraysia and District Veteran golfers event for the year was held on Monday at Mildura Golf Resort A field of 60 contested the Sunraysia Daily single Stableford medley competition enjoying a sunny start and finishing before a wet change that arrived in the early afternoon. 

The clear winner in A Grade was David Gardner with a great score of 43 points from runner-up Mike Barnes on 40 points and Geoff Cameron in third place with 39 points. 

The results were closer in B Grade with Maurice Munro emerging the winner on a countback from Doug Gardner, both on 39 points while in third place was Percy Burnes on 38 points. 

Balls: 33 points or better. 

Alan Steedman, Peter Dooley,Rob Chase, Mark Woodhouse, John Green,Graeme Irvin, Glenn Butterworth, Ron Baird, Wayne Innes, Paul Matthews, Rob Arnold and Greg King collected a ball. 

NTPs: 2nd – John Green, 12th – Michael Baynes. 

Geoff Cameron topped off a successful day winning thebadge raffle. 

Thanks to Mildura Golf Resort and their staff for their support in conducting the event. 

The association will now take a summer break, returning on Monday, March 3, again at Mildura Golf Resort.
