A LOCAL golfer had a swing at the Deaf Golf Victoria Championships late last month and went on to be crowned the women’s net champion.
Kaylene Geddes said she had a full range of emotions heading into the competition.
“I was so excited and didn’t expect to win anything because some of the ladies were very good players, but I managed to keep up with them,” she said.
“Going into it I was pretty nervous. I was excited and looking forward to it.
“When I played the course, it was very tough and long, and it had so many bunkers and creeks, so I didn’t really like the course much, but everything just came together.
“It was really long, and you couldn’t see were the creek was coming because it was quite hilly.”
Geddes knew she had a good chance at winning after the first day of competition.
“I played very well in the first couple of holes, especially with the putting,” she said.
“I did a beautiful long putt on the first day, so there were no troubles at all.
“On the second day, it was sort of average, but I did enough to win.”
Geddes said she couldn’t celebrate as much as she would’ve liked, as she had to drive five hours home the same day of her victory.
She said she planned to take a break from competition for the time being before her next tournament in Perth late next year.
