MILDURA 

ON Tuesday, September 3, the ladies nine-hole Stableford was won Leanne O’Brien on 17 points from runner-up Isobel Whitehead with 14 points. 

Balls: (2) 17 to 14 points. 

Val Whitelaw won the 18-hole Stableford event with 43 points from runner-up Bev Matthews on 35 points. 

Balls: (4) 43 to 34 points. 

NTPS: 1st Pete’s Pure – Carla Sherriff 950cm, 2nd Trentham Estate Rhonda Young 810cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Ann Bowen 45cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Carla Sherriff 242cm. 

Last Wednesday the men played a 4BBB Stableford event with Wayne Dahmes and Tom Ryan surviving a countback on 44 points to defeat runners-up George Szentpaly and Ian Nimon. 

Steve Fumberger and Don McConnell came in third on a countback with 43 points. 

Balls: (21) 44 to 41 points on a counback.

The women’s Stableford on Friday was won by Carla Sherriff on 31 points from runner-up Bev Matthews with 30 points.

Saturday was a medley Stableford competition played in three grades as well as the club championship matchplay. 

A Grade was won by Maurice warn on 39 points from runner-up Andy Stanbrook on a countback from Lee Tucker, both on 36 points. 

B Grade was won by Jake Cameron with 40 points from runner-up Anthony Bell on a countback from Stephen Lush, both on 38 points. 

C Grade was won by Perry Hill with 42 points from runner-up Paul Cocks on 36 points from third placed Bev Matthews on 35 points. 

Balls: (24) 42 to 34 points on a countback. 

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure – Lee Tucker 74cm, 2nd Pig – Michael Coghlan 400cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Andy Stanbrook 635cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Ross Williams 185cm. 

The club championships were decided by matchplay on Sunday with Cam Stewart defeating Rob Toms 3/1. 

B Grade was won by Nev Hodgetts over Adam Bell 2up and in C Grade, Steve Phair won over Gavin Harrington 1up. 

The junior champion was Cam Smith and handicap winner was Will Anderson The veterans champion was Rob Toms and handicap winner was Noel Hedwards. 

A Grade handicap: Mark Woodhouse, runner-up Joe Rocca; B Grade handicap: Craig Wright, runner-up Noel Hedwards; C Grade handicap: Will Anderson, runner-up Rob Latta. 


RIVERSIDE 

ON Tuesday, September 3, Marie Hudak added another win to her list, when she came in with a -1 in the ladies nine-hole par event. 

It was Stableford for the members and visitors last Wednesday, which was played in two grades. 

Ashley Robinson took out A Grade when he smashed out 44 points from runner-up Roberto Fucco 37 points. 

Laughlan Highdale won B Grade after a three-way countback from runner-up Billy Stephens from third placed Peter Schroeder, all on 42 points. 

Balls: 34 points on a countback. 

NTPs: 4th – Claude Dawson 384cm, Cookes Pools and Spas 7th – 505cm, 12th – Grant Giddings 370cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Peter Schroeder 120cm, Deakin Estate Wines 18th – Chris O’Brien 329cm. 

The ladies played stroke for the Monthly Medal on Thursday and Chitra Rankin had (91/70) to take the win from runner-up Tracy Lee (101/75) on a countback with Wendy Dawson (97/75). 

NTPs: 12th – Wendy Dawson 250cm, 18th – Chitra Rankin 63cm. 

The nine-hole medley Stableford on Friday was won by Davison Mbindi on 23 points after a countback against Fletcher Ryan. 

Another countback was needed on Saturday when two ladies ended their rounds on 39 points. 

Wendy Dawson had the better back nine and took the win from Sandy Briggs. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Wendy Dawson, 12th – Margie Lampard, 18th – Tracey Bryan. 

The men played a Stableford event in three grades on Saturday with a countback declaring Darren Gray as the winner of A Grade on 39 points from Rob Garioch. 

In B Grade, Wayne Innes had 38 points to win from runner-up Garry Swallow on 37 points. 

The best score for the day came from Benjami Ave in C Grade with an impressive 43 points from runner-up, Jamie Driscoll on 42 points. 

Balls: 36 points. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Seb Raiti 450cm, 7th – David Williams 190cm, 12th – Craig Jervies 360cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Michael Holcroft 196cm, Deakin Estate Wines 18th – Larry Cavallaro 95cm. 

Sunday’s medley Stableford saw two Faulkhead’s picking up the placings with Lachlan’s 40 points edging out Isaiah on 38 points for the win. 

It was Nic Cairns who shone this week after a magnificent round of 47 points with Jack Cook’s 40 points taking runner-up. 

Balls: 36 points on a countback.

MERBEIN 

A STABLEFORD event was played on Saturday and Alan Gourlay had 43 points to take the win from runner-up Simon Dowling with 41 points. 

Balls: Sam Trinick 39 points, Jono Villiva 38 points, Ken Matulick and Jim Piper 37 points.

COOMEALLA 

THIS Wednesday is a par event, Friday is a nine-hole medley Stableford, Saturday and Sunday are Stableford events and Sunday is an 18-hole medley Stableford. 

Last Wednesday the men played Stableford for the Monthly Mug: A Grade: Ivan McKenzie 38 points, runner-up David Gardiner 38 points, third Steve Spooner 37 points. 

B Grade: Michael Baynes 40 points, runner-up Paul Hewitt 36 points, third Chris Gurney 35 points. 

C Grade: Frank Boseley 38 points, runner-up John Blake 37 points, third Graeme Burrows 36 points. 

Balls: (18) 40 points to 34 points.

The women’s Monthly Medal stroke event on Saturday was won by Erin Nunan 71 net from runner-up Natalie Batten 72 net and third was Ros Hocking 73 net.

C Grade: Craig Maddigan 69 net, runner-up Mac Warchow 71 net, third Nathan Walder 71 net.

RED CLIFFS 

LAST Wednesday the ladies played par and Sandra Marwood had +1 to win A Grade with Dee Hopkins runner up with -1. 

In B Grade Karen Bulman had +5 to win from runnerup Penny Marks on a countback with +2. 

Balls: Rita Chase, Marion Pengelly, Bobbie Ramsay and Isobel Westhead. 

NTPs: 3rd – P. Marks, 8th – M. Pengelly, 12th – S. Poole, 15th – K. Bulman, 17th – M. Pengelly. The men played South African par on Wednesday and Michael Morrall won on a countback with +2 from Mal Goodieson. 

Balls: Glenn Goodall, Gary Nunn, Jim Piper, Terry Fitzpatrick, Kyle Russell and Ken Matulick. 

NTPs: 8th – N. Tickner, 12th – R. Pain, 15th – G. Bettess, 18th – K. Russell. 

The monthly medal was played on Saturday and Jason Finch won A Grade with 72 net on a countback from Roger Walder. 

In B Grade Kevin Burke won on a countback with 73 net from runner-up Paul Legg. 

Balls: Michael Hogan, Tim Pain, Malcolm Blagus, Brett Overton, Ray Pain, Oscar Finch, Peter Hahn, Affie Ganz, Terry Pain and John Prictor. 

NTPs: 8th – M. Hogan, 12th – J. Finch, 15th – G. Nunn, 17th – J. Scott and 18th – R. Begg. Ruth Cupper won the ladies with 72 net and Isobel Westhead was runner up on a countback with 74 net. 

Balls: Susan Poole, Marion Pengelly and Bobbie Ramsay. 

NTPs: 3rd – G. Fitos, 8th – J. Gleeson, 15th – S. Blagus, 17th – H. Wood. 

A medley Stableford was played on Sunday and Mary Jane Smith blitzed the field with 48 points to win from runner-up Jeff Scott with 38 points.

VETERANS 

THE next Veterans event will be the Vines Retirement Village single Stableford played at Red Cliffs Golf Club on Monday, October 7. 

Registration begins at 8.30am with the captains’ address at 9am and a shotgun start at 9.30am. 

New members are most welcome. 

With the weather getting warmer, it’s time to get SunSmart and also to be aware of swooping magpies and may be the odd snake. 


WENTWORTH 

THURSDAY’S stroke event was a tight tussle with Bill Slee taking the win with 69 net over runner-up Jeff Woodruffe on 70 net. 

Third was Gary Bourke with 74 net and Phil Whitton took out Mr Risky with 88 net. 

NTP: 12th – Pete Trevathan 500cm. 

A good field of keen golfers turned up for a hit in cool but almost perfect conditions for Sunday’s Stableford event. 

Glen Walker played in the groove making the most of his 28 handicap to win with 39 points, followed closely by Pete Trevathan on 38 off a 36 handicap. 

Third was Maxie Hodges. 

NTP for a bottle of red went to Howard Hankinson and the pink ball (and Mr Risky trophy) went to Vicki Appleton. 

NSW Golf Professional Garry Begg is running a free come and try day on Monday, September 23. 

The ladies will commence from noon to 1pm, juniors 3.30-4.30pm and adults 5-6pm. 

There will be a sausage sizzle after each session. 

October 20 is our Flood Recovery Ambrose competition open to members and visitors alike. 

There will be a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on a nominated par three hole, along with winners, runners-up and other prizes Stableford events are played on Sundays and stroke events on Thursdays. 

Registration is from 9.30 for a 10am tee off, visitors are welcome. 

Our chicken run will resume on Tuesday evenings once day light savings starts.
