Cameron Smith eyes success on the Murray

AN influx of golf fans are expected to descend on Swan Hill in November to get a first-hand glimpse of arguably Australia’s best male golfer, Cameron Smith.

The 31-year-old Queenslander is set to trade in the riches of LIV Golf, albeit briefly, to compete in November’s 2024 NSW Open at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

The renowned golf complex, a short drive over the Murray River from Swan Hill, will host Smith’s first tee-off in his home nation since April’s LIV Adelaide event, where he led his all-Australian team of Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones to a dramatic play-off victory in front of a huge crowd.

The 2022 British Open winner is set to headline a field competing in the prestigious NSW Open, which features an $800,000 purse.

Becoming a cult hero thanks an impressive flowing mullet, which equals his impressive play on the course, Smith has become one of the country’s most recognisable faces on the golf course.

With six titles on the PGA tour and three victories as captain of Ripper GC on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit, Smith will look to earn valuable world ranking points from the NSW Open, of which LIV Golf events do not apply.

The NSW Open will run from Thursday to Sunday, November 14 to 17.

Tickets are now available online.
