Leaders consolidate positions in Masters

EARLY leaders Daniel Barron and Jacqui Morgan remain the hot favourites to claim the final Shane Doherty Memorial Tri-State Masters golf tournament.

Both established strong gaps to their closest rivals after Wednesday’s second round at Red Cliffs Golf Club, ahead of the third and final round at Coomealla on Friday.

After holding a two-stroke lead following a first-round 77, Barron shot 73 at Red Cliffs to sit on 150 and extend his lead by five strokes.

Mark Deacon remains tied for second on 157 after a score of 78, sharing the position with Clint Jones, while Garth Doherty is one stroke behind on 158.

Morgan’s first-round 76 was followed by 74 on Wednesday to also have her on 150, a massive 17 strokes ahead of nearest golfers Jodie Deacon and June Tickell (167).

Two-time event winner Jenny Chandler is third on 168.
