Dominant start for Coomealla

COOMEALLA sit firmly at the top of the MDGA Pennant Golf table in ladies and men’s Division 1, remaining undefeated after the first two rounds.

It was on their home course where they secured dominant victories for the second round of the campaign, marking themselves as early favourites for the title.

The defending men’s champions Coomealla secured a strong victory over Red Cliffs on Sunday, 3.5 to 1.5.

Mark McDonald won his match for the second week in a row for Coomealla while Daryl Morgan had a runaway victory in his match for Red Cliffs, their only win.

The contest was extremely close with two halved matches between Brendan Rowse and Ash Whitehouse and Simon Dale and Mark Woodhouse.

Jarrod Stokker bounced back for Riverside for a win after a loss the previous week.

Coomealla’s ladies’ team secured a 4.5 to 0.5 win over Red Cliffs. Sue Laird and Kylie Walters were both undefeated after their opening two rounds.

Riverside, meanwhile, earned their first points of the season as they squared with Mildura at 2.5-all.

Michael Smith and Alan Gourlay had a titanic battle with Smith coming out victorious for Robinvale with a 1-up win.

All matches between Coomealla and Red Cliffs went to the final two holes, but wins to Ivan McKenzie, Tony Finn and Luke Perry, and a halved match between Matt Bottomley and Jeff Scott saw Coomealla win the contest on their home track 3.5 to 1.5.

Riverside bounced back with a 3.5-1.5 win over a strong Mildura side, with Nick George remaining undefeated.

Paul White for Mildura and Alex Spooner for Riverside were inclusions this week and both had strong wins.
