Sunraysia district golf results

VETERANS

ON Monday, June 19, the district vets will be travelling down the Calder Highway to Ouyen to compete in the 4BBB Stableford ‘Bricky’ Kay Annual Mallee Root Championship.

Entry fee is just $40 per pair which includes a homemade lunch, competition and green fees.

This event has a different starting time than normal with a 9.30am assembly for a 10am shotgun start.

Check your GA score online before the day to ensure you have the correct handicap for this course.

Prizes include locally sourced meat and vegetables and are awarded to winning pairs as well as the nearest the pins.

Players will be trying to avoid having their names added to the NAGA trophy.

RED CLIFFS

ON Saturday a medley aggregate Stableford sponsored by Sunraysia Daily was played. Lee Bottomley and Catherine Lanigan had 73 points to win and Karen Bulman and Terry Pain were the runners-up on a countback with 69 points.

NTPs: 3rd – J. Gleeson and T. Pain; 8th – S. Dempsey and J .Gleeson; 9th – G. Goodall; 12th – D. Morgan and L. Bottomley; 15th – N. Douglass and L. Bottomley; 17th – G. Goodall and J. Ryan; 18th – R. Begg.

On Sunday Tenupale Opo was the winner with 39 points and Rod Beer had 35 points to be runner-up.

Darren Murnane had 38 points to win on Monday and the runner-up with 37 points was Ray Pain.

MILDURA

ON Tuesday, June 6 the ladies 9 hole competition winner was Jean Moore (39) with 13 points. The 18 hole competition winner was Michelle Blair (25) with 36 points on a countback from runner-up Sheryleen McGlashan (29) also on 36 points.

There were four balls in the ball comp and 29 points or better on a countback collected.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate Sheryleen McGlashan 123cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Sheryleen McGlashan 272cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Michelle Blair 200cm.

On Friday the ladies played a 9 hole Stableford and Carla Sherriff (23) with 30 points took the win.

Saturday was a medley Stableford and 124 players took to the course, which was freshened up by recent rain earlier in the week, and scoring was a challenge for a majority of the field.

A Grade winner was Chris Williams (11) with 38 points on a countback from runner-up Joe Rocca (4) also on 38 points. Third place went to Peter Miatke (9) with 36 points.

B Grade winner was Julian Maloney (17) with 39 points from runner-up Phil Green (17) on 38 points on a countback from third placed Ross Williams (17) also on 38 points.

C Grade winner was Stephen Lush (26) with 39 points from runner-up Rod Ford (20) on 38 points. Third place went to Brodie Ryan (25) with 37 points.

There were 31 balls in the ball comp and 33 points on a countback or better collected.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure wine – Michael Sette 71cm; 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG – Mark Woodhouse 470cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Ross Bowen 152cm.

Sunday was a medley Stableford and the winner was Robert Anderson (27) with 39 points.

There were six balls in the ball comp and 36 points on a countback or better collected.

A good field of 71 players took advantage of a beautiful sunny day to play in the first King’s Birthday Holiday Stableford event in two grades.

A Grade winner was Keith Williams (13) with 38 points on a countback with runner-up Andrew Keogh (9) also on 38 points. Third place went to Ray Lyons (11) with 37 points.

B Grade winner was Josh Evans (23) with 43 points from runner-up Will Anderson (31) on 41 points. Third place went to Robin (Barney) Hubble on 36 points.

There were 17 balls in the ball comp and 33 points on a countback or better collected.

NTP:12th Zilzie wines – Kim Ingram 375cm.

The first round of the Forty Winks 4BBB knockout has been completed. Round 2 and semi-final matches will be Andy Stanbrook and Brant Reid to play Greg Toma and Henry Hartman, and Steven Fumberger and Terry O’Brien to play Phil Nash and Perry Hill.


RIVERSIDE

DUE to last week’s inclement weather, Friday’s nine-hole Medley Stableford was the first competition for the week.

Ian Davies would have been very pleased with his game, after producing a mighty fine 23 points, five shots in front of runner-up Peter Winslow on 18 points. Balls went to 17 points.

On Saturday 13 lLadies enjoyed some sunshine, while playing Par and Wendy Dawson was on fire, smashing out a magnificent +5, for a win, leaving the field behind. Chitra Rankin and Adel Dal Corobbo needed a countback to split them, with Chitra picking up second place, both square. Balls went to square.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Janet Mason 270cm; Red Rooster 12th – Sandy Briggs 180cm; 18th – Wendy Dawson 77cm.

Saturday’s Par for the men saw Josh Fleming pump out a beauty to score +3, the round of the day.

With the men’s comp in two grades, Claude made it a double for the Dawson family, snatching the win on plus +1 in A Grade, over Tony Coppola on -1.

The placings in B Grade were determined by a countback, on +2. Simon Dean took the honours in front of runner-up Gary Sharman. Balls went to -2.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Grant Giddings 291cm; 7th – Wayne Innes 224cm.

It was a medley Ambrose in twos on Sunday and the winning team of Bodan Bishop and Trevor Williams finished with a super score of 64¾. Runners-up went to Seb Raiti and Simon Dale, on 65¼, followed by the Tim and Angela Plumridge team, close behind, picking up third with 65½.

NTPs: 4th – Ian Alexander 32cm; 7th – Gavin Irvin 895cm; 12th – T. Coppola and G Swallow 245cm; 18th – T. Williams 280cm.


MERBEIN

A Stableford event was played on Saturday with Paul Mulder taking the trophy with a steady 38 points from runner-up Ken Matulick on 37 points.

Balls went to Al Gourlay 36 points and Adrian Rudd 35 points. Adrian had 25 points on the front nine but couldn’t keep it going on the back nine.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage Merbein – Peter McGaffin 480cm; 3rd Pigeon Dollars – Michael Thompson; 8th – Drummond Golf Sunraysia Golf Range – Shane Trinnick 350cm; 12th Club voucher – Al Gourlay 310cm.

Meat raffle randomiser was Beverley Cetenich.

Monday was our Kings Birthday Ambrose in fours and a good group of teams competed for the trophies sponsored by Mildura Central in a shotgun start.

A highlight was the shot-of-the-day from Kyle Smythe taking a putter off the tee on the par three 3rd with his team securing a par – sadly boys it goes down as a three putt.

Jason Binding came within two rolls of the ball to getting his name on the hole-in-one board to join his wife whose name is already there.

Winners of the day were the team of Josh Mcaskill, Alan Lillia and Jake and Kane Cameron from runners-up Ethan Gray, Alan Gourlay, Peter Gourlay and Gavin Gourlay.

NTPs: 3rd – Jason Binding 22cm; 8th – Michael Thompson 334cm; 12th – Jake Cameron 380cm; 16th – John Bell 454cm.

Meat raffle winners were Robert Redman, Oscar Mannix and Kyle Smythe.

The club would like to acknowledge the work done by our volunteers, Graeme Dunne, Graeme Kerr and greenkeeper Gavin in particular, for their work getting the fairways and greens prepared. After not having mowers on Sunday, they were able to present the course in great condition for the day. Thanks also go to Bev and Judy for catering and bar service.

Tomorrow is a Stableford event with tee off from 12 noon and on Saturday we have the Adrian Rudd sponsored day.
