Riverside gets set for welcome return

AFTER many months lost due to flooding, the Riverside Golf Club will re-open this weekend.

Surprisingly good growing conditions and the hard work from a number of individuals including head greenskeeper Tim Peterson means that the course is now back on par.

“There was a lot of hard work that went into the greens, along with the fairways where the silt had to be broken up, then cut again and fertilised,” Club president Michael Holcroft said.

All 18 greens were re-seeded in early March and are now flourishing while all of the fairways have been cleared of debris.

The re-opening will be highlighted by one of the sport’s latest crazes, the “party hole” which will take place on hole four.

“There’ll be music and drinks, and the public are welcome to come along and see how well the course has recovered,” Mr Holcroft said.

“We’re expecting that a lot of people will be very keen to get back on the course (this weekend).”

Play will begin at 12.30pm with a shotgun start.
