Sunraysia district golf results

VETERANS

ON Monday a great field of 70 veteran golfers contested the first district event for 2023.
 
Held at the Mildura Golf Resort, the contest was a 4BBB Stableford competition. The eventual winners were Mark Lee and Stephen Smith from runners-up Jimmy Stephen and George Mason. Third prize was awarded to Gary Clark and Jeff Woodroffe.
 
Balls went to Brad Mottram, Bob Fleiner, Suzanna Goldsworthy, Steve Clarke, John Green, Keith Williams, Peter Dooley, Ian Nimon, John Hobbs, Paul McErvale, Ivan McKenzie, Mark McDonald, Boof Ferguson, Mark Smith, Stan Prymke, Graham Burrows, Allison Black and Mary Corcoran.
 
The NTPs went to Tom Wilkinson on both the 2nd and the 12th and Mark Woodhouse on the 10th.
 
This event is unique, in that Forty Winks sponsor a NARGA and this month’s worthy winners were Kevin Jones and Joe Mitchell.
 
The name tag draw was won by Boof Ferguson.
 
We were able to welcome eight new members and hope to see them as regular players. They were Mark Lee, David Guild, Brad Mottram, Lyn Thompson, Alison Black, Mark McDonald, Jeff Woodroffe and Max Smith.
 
Thanks to the staff at Mildura Golf Club for their support in making this day such a success.
 
Our next event will be a single Stableford event to be held at Mildura Golf Resort on Monday, April 3. Note this is an amendment and not as listed on the syllabus issued to members last year.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday a Stableford event was played and In A Grade David Dolic was the winner with 37 points with Greg Rhodes runner-up on a countback with 35 points.

Graeme Duffy had 38 points to win B Grade on a countback from Garry Swallow.
 
For the ladies Lee Bottomley won A Grade with 36 points and Jill Gleeson was the runner-up with 33 points. Glenys Murray had 37 points to win B Grade from Elaine Gray who had 33 points.
 
NTPs: 3rd – S. Wright; 8th – J. McPhee; 15th – A. Forbes and L. Bottomley, 17th – G. Riordan.
 
On Saturday a Mixed American Foursomes was played and Debbie Hassell and Graham Lohmeyer were the winnners with 65.625 from runners-up Craig Douglass and Julianne Wood with 67.75.
 
The men without partners played Stableford. In A Grade Greg Rhodes was the winner on a countback with 40 points from Trevor Williams. In B Grade Chris Merlin had 42 points to win on a countback from Mark Collett.

In Friday’s nine-hole event Brent Smith was the winner with 24 points and Brad Winslow was runner-up on 21 points. 
 
On Sunday a medley Stableford was played and Anthony Morris had 40 points to win from Christopher Curley on 37 points. 
 
Balls went to Gary McNally, Ricky Hayes and Matt Harris.

MILDURA

ON Monday, February 27 the Veterans played a Stableford competition with John Denman (21) with 35 points winning from runner-up Rodney Barnes (11) on 34 points on a countback from third placed Keith Willis (19) also on 34 points.

NTP: 12th – Grant Giddings 300cm.
 
The ladies 9 hole event on Tuesday, February 28 was won by Helen Martin (41) with afantastic 24 points from runner-up Leanne O’Brien (45) with 15 points.
 
The ladies 18-hole event on Tuesday, February 28 was won by Dora Stewart (20) with 37 points from runner-up Marilyn Warn (21) with 35 points.
 
B Grade winner was Shirley Lewis (24) with 37 points from runner-up Jan Meirswa (24) with 36 points.
 
There were nine balls in the ball comp and 34 points on a countback or better collected.
 
NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Kathy Ridley 195cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Eily Raeck 23cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Margaret Morrison 36cm.
 
Last Wednesday the men had 118 players playing an aggregate four-ball Stableford event with Phil Nash (15) and Peter Palazzo (22) combining for 74
 
Stableford points to win from Jason Marks (11) and Ashley Robinson (9) with 72 points on a countback from third placed Don McConnell (24) and Alan Steedman (19) also with 72 points.
 
There were 28 balls in the ball comp and 68 points on a countback or better collected.

The ladies Friday 18 hole Stableford was won by Margaret Morrison (23) with 32 points on a countback from Christine Hartley (45) also on 32 points.
 
NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Glenys Anderson; 12th Zilzie wines – Carla Sherriff.
 
Friday’s medley 9 hole twilight Stableford competition was won by Kevin Masterson (33) with 21 points from runner-up Glen Walker (12) on 20 points.
 
There were six balls in the ball comp and 16 points on a countback or better collected.
 
Last Saturday was a medley Stableford competition with 193 scores returned and scoring was generally good considering the greens were freshly refurbished last week.
 
A Grade winner was Tony Scullino (10) with 41 points from runner-up Mark McDonald (7) with 39 points on a countback from third placed Geoff Hazeldine (10) also with 39 points.
 
B Grade winner was Wayne (Dodgy) Dahmes (14) with 40 points from runner-up Phil Nash (16) on 38 points on a countback from third placed David Williams (14) also on 38 points.
 
C Grade winner was Cesare Fraiia (17) with 41 points from Gavin Harrington (19) with 38 points and third place was Lachlan Inglis (17) with 37 points.
 
D Grade winner was Chloe Stephens (33) with 41 points from runner-up Brent Smith (28) with 39 points and third place went to Gary McNally (30) on 38 points.
 
There were 48 balls in the ball comp and 34 points on a countback or better collected.

The Ranfurly Iron Jack jackpotted with multiple players tied on nine points.
 
Sunday was a medley Stableford event and the winner was Peter Miatke (7) with 39 points. 
 
There were eight balls in the ball comp and 35 points on a countback or better collected.
 
The 2023 Mildura Open tournament will be held over three days from March 31 through to April 1 and 2. Friday’s event is an 18 hole lead up event, with possibly the best prize on offer to the winner on the day, a seven day full membership.
 
Then on Saturday and Sunday is our open tournament event over 36 holes. So, enter early to get a spot as the field will be full and it will be first in best dressed as they say. 

MERBEIN

LAST Wednesday was a Stableford event and Brett Willis won the day with a sterling 37 points from runner-up Mick Innes on 35 points.

With the weather finally a bit cooler, we were able to conduct our Cashed Up twilight event last Friday and Graeme Kerr was on fire scoring 18 points for the nine holes. A reminder that you must play at least two Friday twilight games to qualify for the jackpot on the last Friday of each month and his competition finishes at the end of March.
 
Saturday was the Monthly Medal Stroke event and 25 players were vying for the medal shirt. Dylan Burnett blitzed the field with a score of 85/66 to win four strokes clear from runner-up Ethan Gray 81/70.
 
Balls went to Graeme Kelly 100/72 and Jim Piper 86/72.
