As mentioned previously, with flooding causing the Coomealla and Riverside courses to be closed, all of us at Mildura Golf Resort wish for a speedy return to golf for these two proud clubs. In the meantime, we welcome members of Coomealla and Riverside to join us for their golfing fix and to enjoy our warm hospitality.

Our AGM was conducted last Thursday, and the main highlight of the night was Bruce Dickie’s induction as a life member. Congratulations Bruce, from all members, friends and staff.

We also welcomed a fresh-look committee starting with new president, John Williams; new captain, Gary Fumberger; new vice-captain, Andrew Keogh; and new committee members Aaron Robson, Dennis McLaughlan and Rob Toms joining current committee members David Murray as the new handicapper and Bev Stone as the new treasurer.

RIVERSIDE

IT’S been a very upsetting week for all the Riverside Golf Club members, along with the many visitors who enjoy playing on our beautiful course. Seeing the floodwater totally consuming the fairways and greens and now pushing its way towards the clubhouse has been quite emotional, especially when Tim Peterson and his greensmen had the course in the best condition it had been in for many years.

Having a course on the river makes for picturesque fairways and amazing wildlife, but it also brings with it the risk of floods.

Over its 87 years, Riverside has battled its way through its fair share of disasters, many of which have been quite devastating. But with the help of loyal members of the club, the course was resurrected. So, once again, we ask for the patience of our members and, when the time comes, their help to bring our course back to life.

We also feel for the members of Coomealla Golf Club who have found themselves in the same difficult circumstances.

We may be hurting now, but we will return, bigger and better.

The only competition played in the past week was on Monday, November 21 in the Veteran and Friends Stableford.

Graeme Irvin had a memorable 40 points for a convincing win over Wayne Innes, who grabbed second place from Peter Welling, both on 37 points.

Balls: (6) 34 points on a countback.

Knowing that Riverside will be a long way off being playable again, it’s been comforting to know that Red Cliffs, Merbein and Mildura golf clubs have opened their courses to all Riverside members.

Any members wishing to take up these offers, please ring the clubs to book a tee time.

VETERANS

It’s now less than a week until the Sunraysia District Veterans meet for the final time for this calendar year. It is a single Stableford game to be held at the Mildura Golf Club on Monday December 5.

This is always a popular day because it is the Christmas meeting with prizes for everyone and a special festive lunch.

The winners of this year’s incentive program will be announced and presented with their cash prizes.

Next year’s schedule has been printed and will be distributed to all members.

Our next event won’t be held until March next year as we take our summer break to avoid the heat so let’s get behind our new captain, Ned Klemm, and finish the year on a high.

Registration begins around 8.30am on the front verandah of the clubhouse. Get there early and have a practice putt or go to the pro shop and organise to collect your pre-ordered hire cart. It will be ready.

Please remember to wear your badge as that will assist registration and make you eligible to be included in the raffle. Be ready to play by having checked the GA website to find out your daily handicap beforehand.

Tee-off is the usual 9.30am shotgun start.

With district courses affected by recent flooding, it is fortunate that we still have the opportunity to enjoy this last round of the district veterans so I urge all of our members to be there. See you then.
