Tri-State Masters golf proves a hit in Sunraysia

THE 2022 Shane Doherty Memorial Tri-State Masters was held in Sunraysia from May 15-20.

This is the 29th year of the tournament after having to cancel the tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19. It was great to have the New Zealand contingent return again this year.

Sunday night at the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club in the Auditorium saw the official opening of the tournament, with around 200 people in attendance.

Monday saw the first round take place at Mildura Golf Resort with the morning group teeing off at 7.45am and the afternoon group teeing off at 12.15pm.

Tuesday saw a social 4BBB played at Riverside Golf Club.

Wednesday was the second round of competition, this time at Riverside Golf Club.

On Thursday, there was again another social day of golf available being an Ambrose in 4s.

Friday saw the final round of the 54-hole tournament being played at Coomealla Golf Club with the morning and afternoon starts and followed by the Presentation Dinner in the Auditorium of the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club where the 54 hole Trophies, Teams Prize, 5 year player badges, 10 year plates and 20 year medallion were presented.

This year the Men’s Champion was Rod Sargent from Mansfield Golf Club and is a back-to-back winner after winning the tournament in 2021 for the first time.

The Ladies’ Champion was Jenny Chandler from Cardinia/Beaconhills. Jenny is a first-time player at the event.

A huge thank you goes out to Mildura Golf Resort, Riverside Golf Club and Coomealla Golf Club for making their courses available again for the tournament, as well as the 44 sponsors of the Tri-State Masters and especially to the tournament staff and all the volunteers.

A great man once said, ‘It’s nice to meet nice people’ and ‘Memories live longer than Dreams’. These are two mottos that the Shane Doherty Memorial Tri-State Masters aspires to achieve each year.

The 2023 Tri-State Masters will be held in Sunraysia from May 21-26.
