The men’s 2022 opening day 4BBB is fast approaching on February 26 so get in quick as a full field is expected.

The golf course is taking benefit of some fertiliser and recent rains to be very lush, particularly nice to see the rough and surrounds thickening up.

The newly formed committees for 2022 are already gaining momentum and are keen to make some impact both on and off the course. So, stay tuned and catch up on the latest members newsletter for more details of what’s happening at the MGR.

The members raffle of a Webber barbecue kindly donated by John Williams was won by Nick Cavallo.

We also wish to congratulate our member Sammy Smythe who participated in the All-abilities championship held alongside the Vic Open at 13th Beach course at Barwon Heads on the weekend.

Sam had rounds of 97 & 87 to finish seventh in the nett section. Well done Sam!

VETERANS

IT is less than three weeks before the Sunraysia & District Victorian Veteran Golfers Association meet for the first round of the 2022 syllabus. Our summer break ends when we kick off at the Mildura Golf Resort on Monday, March 7.

It will be a 4BBB stableford event and with Covid restrictions eased it is expected that we will return to our normal format.

Registration commences around 8.30am at the front of the clubhouse where you pay your $20 to cover green fees, competition fees and lunch. Lunch orders are taken and players have a chance to mingle and practice putting until called for a rundown of local rules and distribution of cards around 9am. Players then disperse to their starting tee with the round commencing with a shotgun start around 9.30am.

It’s time to organise your partners and your cart hire. Any new players are most welcome. New members will pay a once off joining fee of $10 and an annual fee of $10.

An initiative this year is to present a name badge to eligible members. Players who have played three or more rounds in 2021 will receive their name tags when registering. There are to be worn prior to the game and afterwards during lunch and presentations. It is optional whether they are worn during play.

Initially over 80 have been prepared for distribution. As new members meet the three game requirement further badges will be issued. More information next week. Until then, happy golfing.

A reminder that the next working bee will be the first Sunday of the month following monthly medal. Vice-president Shaddy will coordinate this but we need more members to attend, the same members keep turning up. Please put your hand up and come along. It’s only for three hours. Next working bee is Sunday, March 6.
