RIVERSIDE

WHAT a pleasant surprise and much-needed relief to have a few cooler days.

Last Monday saw Neil Bryant use his 36 points to take out the veterans and friends’ stableford. Rob Arnold came out the better after a countback against France Wilmann for runner-up, both on 35.

NTPs: 7th and 18th – Paul White 320cm and 857cm.

It was Adel Dal Corobbo’s win in the Tuesday comp for the ladies with a nice 36 points. A three-way countback saw Lyn Thompson in second place, followed by Wendy Dawson and Maree Irvin, all on 32 points.

NTPs: 7th – Maree Irvin 750cm; 12th – Adel Dal Corobbo 200cm; 18th – Lorraine Palmer 25cm.

Wednesday was a stableford for the men in two grades.

Paul Reed had a beauty in A grade to win on 40 points from Jason Marks on 37, but it was Lucas Byron who stole the show in B grade with a scorching 43 points – the round of the week – five in front of Peter Schroeder (38).

NTPs: 4th – Tom Wilkinson 675cm; 7th – Paul Reed 280cm; 12th – Frank Taperell 450cm; 18th – Tim Earl 358cm.

The ladies’ comp on Thursday was pleasing for Maree Irvin, winning on 38 points over Tracy Lee on 35.

NTPs: 4th – Verna Wakefield 240cm; 12th and 18th – Maree Irvin 430cm and 125cm.

Friday’s nine-hole medley stableford was won by Shane Johnson with a fine 22 points in front of Paul Wilkinson on 20.

It was stableford again on Saturday for both the men and ladies, with good fields in both.

An excellent 41 points from Josh Fleming gave him a nice win in A grade, with Gary Sharman runner up on a cool 40.

Brett Overton was the winner of B grade with 39 points from Kevin Burke’s 38.

Steve Wilmann played the par five 11th exceptionally well, leaving with an eagle.

NTPs: 4th and 18th – Brad Steer 92cm and 175cm; 7th – Trent Smith 14cm; 12th – Reece Knights 200cm; 17th – Chris O’Brien 40cm.

Heather Klemm and Wendy Dawson, both on 35, battled out a countback for the placings on Saturday, with Klemm using all of her luck to grab the win.

NTPs: 4th – Lirlene Crozier 396cm; 7th – Wendy Dawson 300cm; 12th – Lyn Saunders 500cm; 18th – Karen Scheer birdie.

It was a great day for Scott Webster in Sunday’s medley stableford, leaving as a winner after his 40 points, with Andrew Thomas in second place with his fine score of 39.

Reece Farr had two mighty good shots on the par-four 13th to secure a lovely eagle.

NTPs: 4th and 12th – Kendall Marchment 120cm and 217cm; 7th and 18th – Rob Garioch 380cm and 200cm.

MERBEIN

Last Wednesday Terry Fitzpatrick was the winner with 32 points.

NTP: 3rd – T. Fitzpatrick 1390cm.

Saturday’s Ambrose in twos was won by Steve Russell and Shane Trinick with 64.75 nett from Alan Gourlay and Ethan Gray on 65.75 nett.

Balls were won by Leon Craig and Ryan McEwan (66.50 nett).

NTPs: 3rd – Shane Trinick 420cm; 8th – Leon Craig 795cm; 12th – Ryan McEwan 218cm; 16th – Aaron Finch 375cm.

Today is a par and Saturday is stableford.

MILDURA

LAST Tuesday’s ladies’ 18-hole competition saw Gayle Ford the winner with a fine 40 stableford points from runner-up Sandra Hutchinson on 34.

A 4BBB was played on Wednesday with five groups returning scores over 44 stableford points.

The eventual winners were Paul Leonard and Ken Stanbrook with 46 points from Maurice Warn and Peter Rhodes (44) and Simon Kelly and Luke Hubble (44) in third.

NTPs: 1st – Maurice Warn 289cm; 2nd – John Harvey 109cm; 10th – Ferdie Bergamin 1100cm; 12th – Robin Hubble 309cm. Balls went to a countback at 42 points on the day.

In Friday’s ladies’ 18-hole round, the win from a countback went to Mabel Crouch from Carla Sherriff (33 points), and in the nine-hole twilight event it was a win for Sandra Hutchinson (20 points) from David Coombes (19).

Saturday’s medley stableford saw Josh McAskill named the winner of A grade on a countback from Peter Hartmann (38 points), and Justin Morrison (36) held third spot.

Adding to his recent form was Kane Cameron, notching up the win in B grade on 38 points over Alan Lay (36) and Ernie Tyrell (35), while in C grade Patrick Rogan picked up the Tasco fuel prize with a runaway win on 41 points ahead of Jeff Lay and Bruce Smyth (both 37).

NTPs: 1st – Rob Toms 80cm; 2nd – Alan Lillia (pig pin prize) 320cm; 10th – Peter Hartmann 277cm; 12th – Trevor Spanos 75cm.

A three-way countback in this week’s veterans’ round resulted in Ferdi Bergamin snatching the win from second-placed Peter Dooley and third-placed John Williams, all on 35 points.

NTP: 2nd – Peter Dooley 1110cm.

Today is a stableford round, Friday twilight nine holes and a ladies’ 18, Saturday a 4BBB stableford and Sunday medley.

Monday is veterans, Tuesday is ladies’ 18 and nine-hole events, and next Wednesday is the ambrose in fours for Australia Day.

WENTWORTH

FOR the first time in recent memory the club has held a women’s comp, taking place last Thursday.

Several ladies from Riverside took a look around the course, Lorraine Palmer with 38 points dominated to take the prize.

Runner-up went to Kathy Ridley with 32. The ball winner was Wendy Dawson on 30 points.

NTP: 17th – Wendy Dawson 220cm.

Ms Risky was Lyn Thompson with 20 points.

The men’s comp was nowhere near the scores of the women, Howard Hankinson, as the best of a poor lot with 34 points, finished on top ahead of Bill Slee (31).

Ball winner was Paul Buttigieg with 30.

NTP: 2nd – Paul Buttigieg 620cm.

Mr Risky was Bill Murray with 20 points.

Sunday’s stroke saw Ged Chapman make a welcome return to the winners’ list with 70 nett ahead of Paul Buttigieg (75 nett). Ball winner was Glen Walker (79 nett) on a countback from Howard Hankinson.

NTP: 2nd – Glen Walker 570cm.

Mr Risky went to Peter Trethalan with 92 nett.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday’s medley stableford saw only 19 players compete due to the heat.

The winner was Bill Woosnam on 39 points from Ken Evans on 38.

NTPs: 8th and 18th – Ben Tallent; 15th – Heather Shaw.

Saturday was a medley stroke for the Monthly Medal.

The A grade winner was Adrian Hensgen on 69 nett from Tom Minns on 74 nett.

In B grade, captain Al Rayner on 70 nett was the winner on a countback from Chris Barko.

C grade went to the ladies, with Karen Bulman on 72 nett winning from Lea Walmsley on 75 nett on a countback.

NTPs: 8th – Julianne Wood; 9th – Peter Wright; 12th – Sheryl Blagus and Stuart Thomson; 15th – Jill Gleeson and Chris Merlin; 17th – Ian Doering; 18th – Brad Morgan.

Coming up this week, today is medley stableford, Saturday is medley stableford and the fourth round of the Summer Cup, and next Wednesday is the Australia Day open medley Texas stableford.
