IN Wednesday men’s stableford competition, the A grade winner was John Thompson (42 points). Runner-up was Justin McPhee (40 points) and third was Greg Rhodes (37 points).

B grade winner: John Gray (41 points), runner-up Thorell Lees (40 points), third Matt Mason (40 points).

C grade winner: Anthony Dakis (42 points), runner-up Frank Boseley (40 points), third Frank Geyer (39 points).

C grade winner: Paul Barrow (41 points), runner-up Aaron Marr (37 points), third Greg Butcher (37 points).

RIVERSIDE

GOLF seems to be one of those sports which, no matter how hot or cold it gets, if you’re keen you’ll roll up.

The medley stableford on January 3 was a winner for Reece Farr, but not before a countback with Toby Cardew, both on 38 points.

NTPs: 4th and 7th – Mark Lee (330cm, 90cm); 12th – Ned Klemm (320cm); 18th – Jim Hadley (160cm).

In Tuesday’s nine-hole event, Meg Hamence finished on a lovely +3 for her win, with Chitra Rankin runner-up on +1 in the par comp.

NTPs: 12th – Chitra Rankin (46cm); 18th – Lyn Saunders (79cm).

Lyn Delmenico made the most of her -1 to win the 18-hole comp.

NTP: 7th – Kath Ridley (1180cm).

It was Monthly Medal for the men on Wednesday and Larry Cavallaro burnt up the course to come in with the best overall score: an amazing 74/66.

A grade was won by Kendall Marchment with another exceptional score of 71/67, from France Wilmann, who was very pleased with his game (83/68).

Andrew Forbes had a seriously good score of 86/68 to come away with the B grade win, in front of Gary Swallow (99/71).

There were two eagles on Wednesday: one by Barry Pilgram on the par-five 14th and the other from John Horkings on the par-five second.

NTPs: 4th – Trevor Williams (98cm); 7th – David Gardiner (430cm); 12th – Tom Wilkinson (530cm); 17th – Oscar Mannix (250cm); 18th – Stephen Smith (105cm).

Thursday’s nine-hole round was a beauty for Jill Shalders, with 21 points giving her a win.

In the nine-hole medley stableford on Friday, the top spot went to Shane Johnson after a countback against Bodan Bishop, in second place.

Par was the comp for the ladies on Saturday and Linda Dickson used her luck to come out the better against Kathy Ridley, both on +1.

Lyn Thomson took out the only NTP for the day (156cm) on the 18th.

The men also played par with a pleasing field of 91 hitting the fairways.

Claude Dawson had a ripper of a day, collecting the best score, a mighty +6.

The president, Michael Holcroft, was the winner of A grade, with a nice +3, three shots clear of Shane Johnson (square) on a countback from Tezza Simpson, Michael Faulkhead, Bruce Liddell, David Williams and Tim McKail.

A +3 score also won B grade when Jarrod McGlashan completed his fine round. Runner-up again had to be determined by a countback, with Paul Graham putting in the best back nine in front of George Mason, Cameron Peters, Tony Johns and Maurie Munro.

NTPs: 4th, 17th and 18th – Claude Dawson (240cm, 56cm, 210cm); 7th and 12th – Ang D’Angelo 167cm, 300cm.

Sunday was a medley stableford, with the men’s captain Kendall Marchment coming in with a scorcher (40 points) to win, from David Whitelegg (38).

NTPs: 4th – Kendall Marchment (120cm); 12th and 18th – Brad Steer (590cm, 224cm).

MILDURA

BEV Stone was the winner of the ladies’ stableford last Tuesday with 36 points, ahead of Ruth Rodi on 35.

Rob Donaldson won the A grade monthly mug with his net 69 in Wednesday’s men’s stroke round, closely followed by Robert Young and Peter Hartman, both on net 70.

In B grade, Terry O’Brien also snatched a narrow win for the monthly mug with net 67 from John Edwards and Michael Osborne, both net 68.

The best score returned was a net 65 from C grade winner James Pippin, finishing ahead of Hayden Cook with a fine net 68. Graeme Worthington was third on 70.

NTPs: 1st – Neville Hodgetts (53cm); 2nd – Rob Pallot for the pig pin award; 10th – Peter Hartman (161cm); 12th – John Edwards (222cm). Paul Rodi won the Totally Work Wear eagle’s nest prize on the par-four 6th.

Last week’s twilight round was won by Ferdi Bergamin with 20 stableford points for the nine, followed by runner-up Val Whitelaw (19).

Saturday was medal day in three grades where a three-way countback at net 69 in A grade ended in first prize for Adam Philp, second to Lee Tucker and Tim Michell in third spot.

It was back-to-back wins for Terry O’Brien in B grade, who took two wins during the week, this time monthly medal on net 71, followed by John Williams (73) and Alan Lay (73).

Tony Dal Corobbo enjoyed the day, notching up a win in C grade on net 71 over runner-up Steve Peters (73), and Joseph Dent settled for third spot (73).

NTPs: 1st – Geoff Hazeldene (153cm); 2nd – Sam Smythe (243cm); Andrew Keogh for the pig pin prize on the 2nd (478cm); 10th – Craig Wright (78cm); 12th – Donald Wall (340cm). Ball rundown to net 75 on the day.

Today is a 4BBB stableford round, Friday is ladies’ 18 holes and twilight nine holes, Saturday and Sunday medley stableford, Monday veterans and on Tuesday the ladies have 18 and nine-hole competitions set up.

MERBEIN

LAST Wednesday Graham Kelly was the winner with 35 points, with Roger Walder (33) winning the ball.

NTPs: 3rd – R Walder (112cm); 8th – M Dean (530cm); 12th – R Walder (560cm); 18th – M Vining (370cm).

 Saturday was the January Monthly Medal, won by Shane Trinick with 71 net.

 The daily competition winner was Alecia Gason (visitor from Snake Valley) with 65 net, with runner-up Steve Russel on 73 net.

Balls went to Jason Binding, Terry Fitzpatrick, Matt Vining and John Bell, all on 74 net.

NTPs: 2nd – S Trinick (320cm); 3rd – R Gason 93cm and ‘The Pigeon’; 6th – R Gason (330cm); 12th – J Bell (420cm); 16th – T Fitzpatrick (615cm); 18th – M Dean (30cm).

Coming up today is stroke and Saturday’s play is ambrose in twos, so please get your partners organised.

WENTWORTH

WE’RE back … happy New Year to everyone.

Thursday was a stableford event and Bill Murray was determined to play to his handicap and produced 37 points to take the win and the jackpot.

Runner-up was the mayor of Pooncarie, Paul Buttigieg, with 35 points.

Ball winners were ‘The Phantom’ Glen Walker with 31 points and Annette Green with 30 points.

NTP: 12th –  Bill Slee (600cm).

Mr Risky also went to Bill Slee with a very poor 23 points.

Sunday’s round was stroke.

Bill Slee played much better to to win with 70 net – a week is a long time in any game.

Runner-up was Glen Walker on 73 net.

Ball winners were Paul Buttigieg on 74 net and Bill Murray with 75 net.

NTP: 2nd – Bill Slee (1240cm).

Mr Risky went to Peter Trethan on 91 net.
