VETERANS

THIRTY-five veterans endured a blustery and wet Monday to enjoy a social round of golf at Merbein. The players included two new members, Ken Evans and Bob Fleiner, who were introduced and welcomed by the captain.

The difficult conditions were best handled by Glenn Butterworth, Maurice Munro, Fleiner and Ned Klemm. Others who bragged about good rounds included Roy Latta, Evans, Terry Buckingham, Ray Pain, Bob Chase, Wayne Innes and David Lloyd.

Par threes were challenging targets but Ron Hall, Alan Steedman, Peter Gilmore and Gary Sharman all reported close drives.

The group stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect for Noel Pugsley who passed recently. Our condolences to his family. Noel was a long-time player and sponsor of our association.

Our thanks to the Merbein Golf Club for their support in organising a successful day. Our next event will be on November 8, which is the second Monday of the month. The Melbourne Cup running puts this event back one week.

This is our Annual General Meeting month and members are reminded nominations are sought for the executive roles for 2022.

At the very least we will be expecting the election of a new captain. Please consider nominating to ensure the association remains strong and the benefits we enjoy as a district association continue.

It will also be one of the last opportunities to score additional points in our incentive program.

Until then, happy golfing and keep safe.
