COOMEALLA

LAST Wednesday, Mark Woodhouse won the A Grade men competition with 40 points, ahead of Neil Bryant and Ken Wakefield on 39.

Thorell Lees (40) won B Grade from Ben Camilleri (38) and Glenn Parker (35).

NTPs were: David McDonnell (seventh, 34), Brendan Bower (11th, 221) and Jack Budd (18th, 397).

Friday’s medley nine-hole Stableford was won by Ross Robertson (20) from Alan Scorer (19).

NTP was: Ron Hunt (18th, 190).

In Saturday’s men’s competition, the A Grade winner was Greg Rhodes with 65 (64 off the stick), ahead of Mark Woodhouse and Ivan McKenzie (70).

B Grade was won by Glen Wallace (72) on countback from David McDonnell, with John Thompson third (74).

C Grade was won by Howard Jones (65) ahead of Nicholas Cottrell (66) and Dylan Bottoms (69).

NTPs were: Jacob Slimmon (third, 241), Bottoms (seventh, 180), Craig Tung (11th, 138) and Ian Petrac (18th,180).

Saturday’s ladies’ winner was Emmalee Beggs (61) well ahead of runner-up Gaylene Geddes (70).

NTPs were: Nia Whittle (third, 58), Sue Laird (seventh, 171), Maureen Bailey (11th, 114) and Robyn Hand (18th, 230).

Sunday stroke was won in A Grade by Daryl Morgan (70), ahead of Glenn Marr (70) and John Coleman (71).

B Grade went to Shane Trinick with a fine 65 from Carlo Longeri (71) and Jim Fahey (72), while David Smith (67) took out C Grade ahead of Ben Camilleri (68) and Ray Olver (72).

NTPs were: Mark Alvey (third, 179), Scorer (seventh, eight), Ross Robertson (11th, 420) and Peter Shadwick (18th,540). Justin McPhee had an eagle at the 12th.

VETERANS

THIRTY-five veterans endured a blustery and wet Monday to enjoy a social round of golf at Merbein. The players included two new members, Ken Evans and Bob Fleiner, who were introduced and welcomed by the captain.

The difficult conditions were best handled by Glenn Butterworth, Maurice Munro, Fleiner and Ned Klemm. Others who bragged about good rounds included Roy Latta, Evans, Terry Buckingham, Ray Pain, Bob Chase, Wayne Innes and David Lloyd.

Par threes were challenging targets but Ron Hall, Alan Steedman, Peter Gilmore and Gary Sharman all reported close drives.

The group stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect for Noel Pugsley who passed recently. Our condolences to his family. Noel was a long-time player and sponsor of our association.

Our thanks to the Merbein Golf Club for their support in organising a successful day. Our next event will be on November 8, which is the second Monday of the month. The Melbourne Cup running puts this event back one week.

This is our Annual General Meeting month and members are reminded nominations are sought for the executive roles for 2022.

At the very least we will be expecting the election of a new captain. Please consider nominating to ensure the association remains strong and the benefits we enjoy as a district association continue.

It will also be one of the last opportunities to score additional points in our incentive program.

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S Stableford saw ‘Straight Arrow’ Col Stewart (34) finish ahead of Bill Slee (32).

NTP was: Slee (17th, 750). Mr Risky went to Wayne Astbury (just learning) with 20.

Sundays stroke went to Slee with a very good 68. Runner-up was visitor Grant Hancock (74).

NTP was: Ged Chapman (third, 190). Ged also picked up the Mr Risky with his 85 net.

Tuesday night’s Chicken Run has started – 5pm Stableford events.
