RIVERSIDE

WHILE competition may not be back up and running yet at Riverside Golf Club, members still saluted two of their own who hit a hole-in-one within 24 hours of each other.

On Friday night Nick Goodieson nailed his tee shot on the par-3 seventh before Lyn Thompson on Saturday did likewise on the par-3 fourth.

Club manager David Gardiner said the duo were the talk of the club with a hole-in-one being a rarity, let alone having two occur within a short period of time.

Gardiner said it was the first single shot hole for both players.

VETERANS

FOR the past month in Sunraysia we have been fortunate to have been allowed to play non-contact sports, which includes golf.

Many districts throughout the state have just been granted that very privilege as lockdowns transform into lockouts. Having both jabs will give people advantages as we emerge from the COVID-19 restrictions. So it seems wise to participate while the opportunity exists. Local veteran golfers have the extra advantage of playing across many different courses and this Monday, October 4, we have our next scheduled event, planned to be a 4BBB Stableford at the Merbein Golf Club.

Complying with COVID requirements may necessitate that it becomes a social event instead. Food will be provided if allowed and the expectation will be that we will follow our normal procedures. Twenty dollars will cover green fees and a lunch.

The starting time will be 9.30am and players can sign in using QR codes or register their details manually. Social distancing and number restrictions will be in place on the day.

The club has a limited number of carts for hire so I would advise you contact the clubhouse as soon as possible.

It would be great to have good numbers as district clubs appreciate our support and this is shown in their willingness to organise these days at very reasonable prices. So I hope to see you come along and enjoy what is always a well-organised and great day.

Meanwhile, keep safe, keep isolated and get vaccinated.

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S Stableford saw Bill Slee continue his winning ways with 37 points, runner-up going to the Straight Arrow Col Stewart on 35.

NTP was Col Stewart (second, 630). Mr Risky went to Ged Chapman with his 21 points.

Sunday stroke saw the same result on a different day, Slee carrying on the good form with 74. Runner-up was Bill Murray (75).

NTP was Slee (second, 200). Mrs Risky went to Annette Green with 82 net.
