RIVERSIDE
THE past week saw the ladies get back to some serious golf as the first two rounds of the 2021 Championships were completed.
However, taking it back to the start of the week, Monday’s veterans and friends Stableford was won by on Ron Hall on 36 points, after a countback with David Lloyd.
NTP was: Mark Lloyd (seventh, 621).
Tuesday’s ladies’ Stableford saw another win for Jan Lloyd (32). NTPs was: Lyn Thompson (fourth, 525).
The nine-hole comp went the way of Tracey Lee with a lovely 22 points.
It was Stableford for the men on Wednesday in two grades.
Countback was required in A Grade to determine the winner, with Paul Reed playing the better to take that mantel over Shane Johnson, both on excellent 41s.
Bob Wagner took the win in B Grade, with a fine 38. It was countback time again and Tom Wilkinson collected the runners-up prize. John Wass and Neil Johnson, just missed the cut.
NTPs were: Laurie Riordan (fourth, 290), Graeme Southwell (seventh, 210), Ash Whitehouse (12th, 348), Ned Klemm (17th, 110) and Craig Jervies (18th, 175).
The daily comp for the ladies on Thursday was a stroke event in two grades.
It needed a three-way countback in A Grade, but Mrs Consistent, Lorraine Palmer, put together the winning round (91/74), with Jen Stephenson (96/74) coming second and Lisa Garioch (84/74) third.
Talking about consistency, Jan Lloyd won B Grade after a very nice 104/71.
Kaye Ballantyne (104/73) battled for the second with a countback win against Linda Young (107/73), our past captain who is now at Willunga Golf Club.
NTPs were: Tracy Lee (fourth, 200), Jen Leach (seventh, 588), Tracey Coulson (12th, 139) and Linda Dickson (18th, 80).
Friday’s medley nine-hole Stableford saw Braydon Collicoat (21) win from runner-up Tom Wilkinson after a countback with Nicholas George (both on 20).
The men played Stableford on Saturday, with David Williams finishing with 38 to leave with the A Grade win, just in front of Brad Steer (37).
Cliff Cooke was very happy to win B Grade with a great score of 39. Kevin Eastwood was runner-up, just one behind.
NTPs were: Neil Lawlor (fourth, 310), Simon Dale (seventh, 350), Tim Donaldson (12th, 211), Brad Steer (17th, 58) and Greg Rhodes (18th, 71).
Saturday’s ladies’ daily comp was a ripper for Rose Gilardi (111/69). She won ahead of Steph Baker (81/70), who also played a super game.
NTPs were: Heather Klemm (fourth, 1140), Jen Leach (seventh, 528), Teresa Hagen (12th, 250) and Steph Baker (18th – birdie).

Ryan Zeppel had a mighty 40 points to win the Sunday medley Stableford over Ian Davis (39).
Gavin Minter played the par-five 14th hole extremely well, coming away with an eagle.
NTPs were: Bruce Liddell (fourth, 570), Jim Callaway (seventh, 175) and Minter (18th, 215).
COOMEALLA
WEDNESDAY’S men’s A Grade winner was Keegan Blows (40) over runner-up Andrew Rix (37) on countback from Tony Finn.
B Grade went to Craig Storer (44) from Barry Waters (39) and Peter Duscher (37).
Ian Walder (41) claimed C Grade on countback from Kevin Aston with Bob Fleiner (39) third.
NTPs were: Mark Woodhouse (third, 86), Greg Rhodes (seventh, 146), Craig Storer (11th, 172) and Ivan McKenzie (18th, 218).
Wednesday’s ladies’ comp was won by Marg Midgley (36) by two points over Sandra Hunt.
NTPs were: Salli Fox (third, 16), Frann Sette (seventh,190), Midgley (11th, 158) and Lee Bottomley (18th, 145).
Ben Camilleri (20) won Friday’s medley nine-hole Stableford from Larry Frasca (17).
NTPs were: Ron Hunt (11th, 813) and David McDonnell (18th, 295).
Saturday’s men’s A Grade went to David Wilson (71), just ahead of Mark Woodhouse (72) and Josef Moisidis (73).
B Grade was won by Craig Storer (71). Bruce Summerfield (72) claimed second on countback from Brett Laird.
John Blake (68) clinched C Grade ahead of David Porter (70) and Rodney Hand (72).
NTPs were: Cam Stewart (third, 390), Greg Chandler (seventh, 319), Bruce Summerfield (11th, 485) and Shannon Erskine (18th, 170).
Saturday’s ladies’ event was won by Kylie Walters (74) by a point from Sue Arthur.
NTPs were: Sonya Golitschenko (third, 20), Nia Whittle (seventh, 1200), Robyn Hand (11th, 89) and Salli Fox (18th, 17).
Sunday’s medley Stableford was clinched by Kofi Lord (41), ahead of Craig Tung (39), Carlo Longeri (39) and Dale Stephens (38).
NTPs were: Lee Bottomley (third, 840), Aaron Duck (seventh, 250), Walter Schultz (11th, 127) and James Daly (18th, 54).

VETERANS
MONDAY’S district event started with players teeing off in thick fog. The perennial joke about hitting the ball out of sight was bandied about, which got everyone off to a humorous start. The group of 40 soon settled down to the more serious task of contesting the 4BBB.
The eventual winners were Wayne Innes and David Lloyd (43). In second were Tom Wilkinson and Rod Arnold (42).
NTPs were: Ned Klemm (third), Peter Knight (eighth), Ron Leamon (12th) and Mark Woodhouse (15th and 17th).
The Red Cliffs Golf Club once again organised a great day. The lunch was a real winter’s treat with hot soup and stew enjoyed by all. Our thanks to the club for their efforts in preparing the course in excellent condition.
We hosted the Victorian Veteran Golfers Association secretary John Robertson who took the opportunity to speak to us about statewide issues.
We also welcomed two new members, Ray Lyons and Reg Dean, for their first of what we hope will be many games.
Our next event will be held at the Coomealla Club. It will be our championship day with the round being a stroke event. It will be held on Monday 2nd of August.
MERBEIN
LAST Wednesday’s Irish Stableford was won by Graeme Kerr with a solid 38 points over Frank Crouch (35).
NTPs were: Crouch (second, 495), Frank Zambito (third, 143, and 12th, 143) and Kerr (14th, 410).
Saturday’s July Monthly Medal went to Terry Fitzpatrick (74) over Keryn Neindorf (77).
NTPs were: Fitzpatrick (third, 494) and Zambito (14th, 320).

RED CLIFFS
LAST Wednesday the men played Stableford while the ladies played stroke in the final round of the club championships.
Men’s A Grade was won by Michael Hogan (36) from Gary Nunn (34). In B Grade, it was Keith Rogers (38) from Peter Lynch (35).
NTPs were: Robert Chase (eighth), Neil Wilkie (12th), Paul Bamford (17th) and Nunn (18th).
In the ladies’ daily competition, A Grade was won by Jill Gleeson (73) over Joan Ryan (77). B Grade went to Rossalyn Baird (73) from Carmel Briody (74).
NTPs were: Jill Gleeson (third, 12th and 15th), Lea Walmsley (eighth) and Sheryl Blagus (17th).

WENTWORTH
THURSDAY’S Stableford was brilliantly won by Garry Bourke (39), six clear of Howard Hankinson.
NTP was: Bourke (eighth, 1050). Mr Risky with 25 – and by his own admission – Bill Murray.
Good to see Dave Gardiner back hitting the golf ball.
A wide range of scores in Sunday stroke showed you don’t need a par round to win.
Bill Slee, with 75, scraped home from runner-up Annette Green.
NTP: Slee (second, 700). Mr Risky went to Ged Chapman, who is having a few mixed rounds of late.
