MILDURA

GOLF in Victoria has had further restrictions imposed since June 3. They include a 50-person limit on the course at one time, competitions are not permitted, mandatory check-in (at the golf shop) and masks must be worn inside the venue. Handicapping of social scores is permitted. These conditions, particularly the ban on competition golf, means only social golf can be played for the near future and all social players must check-in at the golf shop prior to play.

VETERANS

IT was a wintry day but the cool breeze didn’t deter the 30-odd veteran golfers enjoying a very different round to that listed on the syllabus.

It should have been single Stableford but because of requirements imposed due to COVID-19 restrictions it was changed to a social event. These days have always been a great social occasion and the lack of a competition didn’t dampen the players’ enthusiasm to enjoy the day. It is difficult to work out who might have won if it had been a regular event but conversations shared as people made ready to leave indicate that Ken Upton, Keith Rogers, Peter George and Joe Mitchell may have had the better of the field. As for NTPs, there were many close shots that would have resulted in good chances. Keith Willis, Ned Klemm, Mark Woodhouse, Peter George and others managed great tee shots. Oh what might have been.

The proposed game that was to be held at Ouyen in two weeks has been postponed due to the condition of the course because of a lack of rain. We can only hope that it is postponed and not cancelled but, with our fingers crossed and with the prospect of rain this week, it might be possible to hold that event later in the year. Stay tuned for updates.

Our next game, COVID-19 permitting will be at Red Cliffs on July 5 and not Coomealla as previously listed.

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S Stableford was dominated by in-form Howard Hankinson (37). He finished well clear of Bill Slee and Garry Bourke (33).

NTP: Annette Green (second, 368). Mr Risky went to wily Bill Murray (26).

Murray then went on to win Sunday’s stroke with a 71 net. Slee (73) came in second.

NTP: Howard Hankinson (17th, 470). Ms Risky was Green (81).
