MILDURA
The Mildura men played single stroke in three grades for the Monthly Mug on Wednesday 3 February.
A grade was decided by a three-way countback on nett 68.
The winner was Wayne Gill on 68 nett; second was Craig Tung; and third was Graeme Polkinghorne.
Fred Stewart scored nett 66 for a win in B grade from Bruce Dickie, also on nett 66, and third place went to Robert Briggs on nett 69.
The best nett score of the day was 62 nett by Tomas Floyd to win C grade; with Dennis Grigg and John Harvey both scoring nett 71 to finish second and third, respectively. Twenty-one balls were handed out, to players with net 72 or better.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Wayne Gill (first hole, 113 cm); John Green (second hole, 89 cm); Maurice Warn (second hole, pig prize, 208 cm); Michael Sette (tenth hole, 150 cm); and Rob Toms (twelfth hole, 501 cm).
The 9 hole Telstra twilight competition on Friday 5 February was won by Valerie Whitelaw who scored 21 points; Frank Tippett was second with 19 points; and Ferdi Bergamin had 18 points to finish third.
The men’s Monthly Medal on Saturday February 6 was in three grades.
Neville Hodgetts won A grade with nett 70; was second on nett 72; and Greg Toma was third on nett 73.
Noel Hedwards had nett 67 to win B grade, from Craig Jukes (nett 69) and Paul Treacy (nett 70).
There was a three-way countback on nett 74 required in C grade to determine that the winner was Ian Brodie; Ian Nimon was second; and Peter Dooley was third. 29 balls were handed out, with nett 75 or better required to win a ball.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Robert Young (first hole, 46 cm); Nicholas Cottrell (second hole, 296 cm, which also won the Pig prize); Geoff Hazeldine (tenth hole, 695 cm); and Wayne Gill (twelfth hole, 217 cm.).
The medley stableford competition on Sunday 7 February was won by Paul Treacy who scored 39 points.
George Nicholas was second on 34 points, and Peter Ellery had 32 points to finish third.
Balls were awarded to players with 31 points or better.
A field of twenty veteran men played their usual stableford competition on Monday 8 February. The winner was Frank Tippett who scored 37 points, and Graham Robertson was second on 35 points.
Greg Rhodes won the nearest the pin prize on the second hole, and John Williams scored nearest the pin on the twelveth hole.
RED CLIFFS
Wednesday’s game was Medley PAR, and in A Grade Mal Goodieson was the winner on plus 4 from Neil Wilkie on plus 3. Sandy Wright on square was the B Grade winner from Choppa Chase on minus 1.
Nearest the pins were eighth Josh McAskill and Kath Underwood, 15th Patsy-Anne Kentwell, 17th Kane Cameron and 18th Ian Doering.
On Saturday we played a Medley Stableford. Affie Ganz on 37 points was the A grade winner from Daryl Morgan on 35 points.
In B Grade Catherine Lanigan was the winner on 37 points from Jason Plant on 35 points. C Grade winners were two of our new ladies, Glenys Murray on 41 points from Heather Shaw on 36 points.
Nearest the pins were third Affie Ganz, fifth Daryl Morgan, eighth Sandy Wright and Tom Minns, ninth Daryl Morgan, 12th Deb Hassell, 15th Keryn Neindorf and Tom Minns and 17th Steve Farley.
RIVERSIDE
George Mason played well on the first day of February, using his 38 points to bring home a win, over Greg King on 37 points.
The 18 holes’ comp for the Ladies on Tuesday put Ros Nash on top, after her 36 points, with Kathy Ridley second (35 points).
Nearest the pins was 18th Kaye Ballantyne with 230cm.
Jen Stephenson won the nine hole Stableford with 17 points. Sally Watson was runner up, after a count back with Verna Wakefield, both on 16 points.
Nearest the pins was fourth from Liz Wallace 160cm.
Wednesday’s Men’s comp needed a count back to determine the A Grade winner, with John Fraser (38 points) coming out the better, over Tim Peterson.
A super round of 40 points, from Warrick Fisher handed him the B Grade win, on front of John Sutton (38 points).
Nearest the pins were fourth Warrick Fisher 130cm, 12th and 17th (520cm) George Riordan and 18th Peter Ellery 205cm.
The 18-hole Par event on Thursday was a ripper for Jan Lloyd, taking out the best Ladies score for the week, on a mighty plus 5. Ros Nash kept her good form going too, next in line with a nice plus 3.
Nearest the pins were: fourth Dot Knight 505cm, 12th Ros Nash 118cm and 18th Jan Lloyd 120cm.
Jill Shalders came in Square to pick up the nine-hole Par.
Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford put Matt Anderson at the top with a fine 23 points. Birdie Bass encountered a three way count back before landing second place, over Chris Baldock and Nicholas George on 22 points.
Linda Dickson was pleased with her winning score of 38 points, on Saturday, with Lorraine Palmer one behind on 37 points.
Nearest the pins were fourth (297cm) and 18th (80cm) Wendy Dawson, seventh Tracey Bryan 410cm and 12th Karyn Sheer 160cm.
The Men’s Saturday comp was a beauty for Chris O’Brien, winning A Grade with an impressive 40 points, from Club President Alan Connolly on 38 points.
A count back between four saw Zac Weight take out B Grade, George Mason snatch second place, with Graeme Irvin and John Sutton just missing the cut, after all finishing on 36 points.
An Eagle went the way of Peter Horsnell on the Par five 14th.
Nearest the pins were fourth (390cm) and 17th (410cm) Alan Connolly, seventh Peter George 380cm and Gary Sharman 190cm.
Sunday’s Medley Stableford produced some great scores. Simon Bartsch had a win on an excellent 41 points and Reece Farr was just one back with a pleasing 40 points.
Brendan Rowse played the Par five 14th well, leaving him with an Eagle.
Nearest the pins were fourth (185cm) and 18th (410cm) Claude Dawson, seventh Michael Englefield 138cm and 12th Rakil Woetai 700cm.
MERBEIN
Wednesday 3 February 2021 saw the field take on a stableford event with the spoils going to Michael Cook with a strong 39 Points in front of Ken Matulick with a solid 36 points.
Winner was Michael Cook on 39 points and runner-up was Ken Matulick on 36 points.
Nearest the pins: second F. Zambito 820cm, third S. Trinnick 705cm, sixth S. Trinnick 315cm, 12th F. Zambito 550cm, 14th S. Trinnick 425cm, 16th F. Crouch 575cm and 18th R. Walder 760cm.
Saturday February 8 2021 saw Steve Russell take out the stableford comp with a great round of 38 points. Michael Cook kept his solid form going into Saturday scoring 37 points getting the runner up nod via countback over Frank Zambito.
Winner was Russell on 38 points and runner-up was Michael Cook on 37 Points.
Nearest the pins were third F. Zambito 246cm and Pigeon: S. Russell 345cm, eighth N.Cavallo 648cm, 14th M. Thomson 340cm and 16th M. Vining 280cm.
COOMEALLA
Ilker Deli won at Coomella last Wednesday with 14 points.
Runner-up was Chris Gurney with 37.
Third place was Michael Golitschenko, one point behind Gurney.
B Grade winner with 38 points was Bernie Sprague.
Rodney Hand was one point lower with 37 points and John Horkings was just behind again with a score of 36.
The ball comp was 41 to 33.

Ros Hocking took out first place last Wednesday with 40 points.
