RIVERSIDE
THE last Monday in January was a good one for Jerry Stephens, putting 37 points together to win the Stableford.
Jake and Adam Keil have each won a comp over the past couple of week.
So it would have made sense for them to join forces for the Australia Day Ambrose in twos.
And it paid off, winning by a slim margin with a fantastic 63.5.
Nicholas and Craig George were second in line on another great score of 63.75.
The men’s Wednesday comp was in two grades with Scott Connelly winning A Grade on 39 points from Chris O’Brien on 38 points.
Brian Young had a lovely round of 40 to take out B Grade.
Jack Graham defeated George Mason in a count back for second place, both on 37 points.
Thursday’s ladies 18 hole saw Ros Nash (34 points) coming out the better in a count back for winner against Adel Dal Corobbo.
Liz Wallace made the most of her 16 points in the nine hole comp to come out on top.
Friday’s nine hole Medley Stableford had Aaron Wilkie as a clear winner on 23 points.
A threeway countback put Angelo D’Amico in second place followed by Chris Baldock and Trevor Leighton, all on 19 points.
Kathy Ridley and Elizabeth Trabilsie were the winning team in the ladies Saturday’s 4BBB Stableford with a very nice score of 42 points.
The Men’s winning team was Anthony Harmes and Luke Jowett, with a mighty 47pts, in front of Laurie Riordan and Chris O’Brien on a fine 45pts.
NTP’s were: 4th – Peter Williams, 230cm. 7th – David Williams, 213cm. 12th – Steven Rogers – 390cm. 17th – Graeme Southwell, 320cm. 18th – Craig Douglass, 148cm.
Sunday’s Medley Stableford was a ripper for Reece Farr, smashing out 41 points, with runnerup going to Andrew Thomas on 39 points.
Mark Lee played the par five 14th perfectly, coming away with an Eagle.
NTP’s were : 4th – Andrew Thomas, 50cm. 7th – David Williams, 208cm. 12th – Michael Holcroft, 867. 18th – Andrew Thomas, 205cm.
RED CLIFFS
AUSTRALIA Day’s Open Texas Stableford in fours was won by Jason Beard, Connor Darby, Eamonn Higgins and Tom Wallace on 138 points from Graeme Duffy, Ivan Ban, Rob Sutherland and Neil Wilkie on 136.
Nearest the pins went to Clayton Dowdy on the third; Wayne Hatcher and Elaine Gray on the eighth; Mal Blagus on the 12th; Peter Dooley on the 15th and Andrew Wood on the 17th.
Last Wednesday was a medley Stableford and the fifth round of the Summer Cup.
A Grade winner was Noel Douglass on 35 points from Neville Birch on 33 points.
In B Grade Brian Furey on 38 points, was the winner from Dee Hopkins on 31 points.
Nearest the pins went to Michael Hogan and Jill Gleeson on the eighth and Jill again on the 15th.
Saturday’s game was a 4BBB medley par.
Jason Plant and Gary Nunn combined well to score plus 10 and win.
Runners-up on a threeway countback were Phil Shaw and John Prictor from Kevin Leach and Mal Goodieson, Jeffrey Scott and Andrew Wood all on plus seven.

MILDURA
A FIELD of 76 golfers contested the single par competition last Wednesday.
The A grade winner was Robert Pallot with a score of +4; Jeff Giddings was second with +2, and Steven Fumberger was third on +1.
In B grade, Ernie Tyrrell had +3 for the win; from Bill Forrester on +2, and John Simpson on +1.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Nigel Ingram (first hole, 325cm); George Szentpaly (second hole, 256cm); John Hardie (10th hole, 207cm); and Trevor Rogers (12th hole, 26cm).
The ladies played single Stableford on January 29.
The winner was Helen Treacy on 35 points; Valerie Whitelaw was second on 34 points; Bev Stone third on 33 points; and Sandra Hutchinson has 26 points to take fourth spot.
A big field of men played single Stableford in three grades on January 30.
The A grade winner was Peter Hartmann who scored 40 points; Rodney Robran was second on 39 points, and Steven Fumberger had 38 points which earned him third place.
Scores were also good in B grade, where Simon Kelly had 40 points for the win; Ron Casey was second on 38 points, and John Green was third on 37 points.
Graham Robertson won C grade with 34 points; from Wayne Brice on 33, and Ian Nimon also on 33.
The nearest the pin prizes went to Geoff Hazeldine (first hole, 140cm); Fred Goldsworthy (second hole, 343cm); Grant Beggs (10th hole, 550cm); and Robert Briggs (12th hole, 250cm).
Twenty-seven players with scores of 34 points or better received an encouragement award of a golf ball each.
The Mildura veteran gofers played their usual round of single Stableford on February 1.
Cliff Ferguson scored 39 points for a win over Greg Rhodes (second on 37 points), and Steven Fumberger (third, also on 37 points).
Nineteen of the 25 players had a score of 30 points or better, so most of the “vets” were happy with their round and enjoyed the social refreshments afterwards.
WENTWORTH
WILY Bill Murray’s form in the new year has been rewarded with a fine win in the Stableford competition on January 21 with 37 points.
Runner-up was another wily competitor in Ron Moore with 35 points.
Ball winners: Bill Slee 33 points and Glen Walker 32 points.
Nearest the pin: Ron Moore with 144cm on the 12th.
Mr Risky after a run of good form went to Ged Chapman with 27 points.
On January 28 Max Hodges was a dominate winner, on his way to a handicap of 25 he found 40 points.
Runner-up was Bill Murray with 35 points.
Ball winners Garry Bourke 35 and Bill Slee 33 points.
NTP Garry Bourke 280cm on the 12th.
Mrs Risky went to “Now I can see” Annette Green, although Annette did not see the levee bank and dispatched two over to lose on count back.
Seventy-four net was enough for improving Tom Clark to win Sunday’s stroke round.
Runner-up was Garry Bourke with 75 net, ball winner Max Hodges 81 net, Mr Risky Ged Chapman 87 net.

COOMEALLA’S Australia Day medley Stableford winner was Troy Hayes with 40 points.

CONGRATULATIONS to Wally Schultz for an eagle on the eighth on Saturday.
On Australia Day at the Royal a two-person Ambrose was played and contested by a field of over 60 players.
With some dynamite scores entered.
The day was taken out by the pairing of Allan McMaster and Josh Bailey with a 70/60.
Last Wednesday a Stableford event was played by a decent field with Jason Pope coming out on top with 38 points over Howard McGaffin on 37 points.

Saturday saw a par event played out with the win going to Graeme Kerr with a hot +5 over Graeme Dunne with a +4.
