MERBEIN

LAST Wednesday a field of 12 took to the course for a par event. 

Winner: Graeme Kerr +2, runner-up: Michael Cook 0.

Nearest the pins: second Graeme Kerr 235cm, sixth Shane Trinnick 397cm, 12th Terry Fitzpatrick 285cm, 14th Shane Trinick 745cm.

On Saturday a strong field took on the Royal in a stableford event with some great scores handed in.

Winner: Michael Cook 43 points, runner-up: Mel Lyons 40 points.

Nearest the pins: second Shane Trinick 105cm, third Stuart Watson 521cm, sixth Matty Dean 10cm, eighth Michael Cook 419cm, 14th Stuart Ferguson 280cm, 16th Paul Mulder 501cm, 18th Stuart Watson.

COOMEALLA

BEN Doherty was last Wednesday’s A grade winner with 43 net, from Alan Scorer on 40 net and Greg Rhodes on 39.

The B grade winner was David Doering: 38 net, runner-up Phill Moisidis 36 net, third: Tom Lanyon 36 net.

C grade winner was David Porter with 40 net, runner-up Noel Thomas 37 net, third Greg Murphy 36 net.

Ball comp (21) 35 to 43 net

Nearest the pins: third: Justin McPhee: 472cm, seventh: Craig Hollingworth: 160cm, 11th: Mark McDonald 277cm, 18th: Anthony Lee: 144cm.

Wednesday’s women’s winner was Sue Laird with 37 net, runner-up: Salli Fox 37 net.

Friday medley nine hole Stableford winner Kym James 23 net. Runner-up: Howard Jones 20 net.

Nearest the pins: 11th Tony Finn 580cm, 18th Glenn Marr 380cm.

Saturday A grade winner was Aldo D’Amico with 39 net. Runner-up was: Anthony Lee with 37 net. Third was Dale Stephens with 36 net. 

B grade winner was Phill Moisidis on 40 net, runner-up: Jeff Stewart: 37 net, third Barry Waters 36 net.

C grade winner was John Horkings with 43 net, runner-up was Greg Stewart with 43 net, third was Ken Forster on 38nett 

Ball comp (19): 35 to 43 net.

Saturday women’s winner was Sue Laird on 38 net. Runner-up: Sally McOrist 37 net.

Nearest the pins: seventh: Sue Laird 481cm, 18th: Sue Laird: 0cm.

Sunday medley Stableford winner was Mark White with 41 points. Runner-up: David McDonnell 37 points 

Ball comp (6) 41-36.

Nearest the pins: third Aaron Duck 400cm, seventh Mark Woodhouse 130cm, 11th: Darren Bottomley 100cm, 18th: Craig Hocking 108cm.

RIVERSIDE

GRAEME Irvin made the most of his 37 points in the veteran and friends Stableford on January 18th and Peter Ellery was just one behind on 36 points.

The Ladies 18 hole comp on Tuesday saw Linda Dickson on 35 points and winning in front of Wendy Dawson on 33 points after a count back with Tracy Lee.

Sally Watson came out the better, after a battle with Val Berry, both on 18 points in the nine hole.

Wednesday was the Monthly Award for the men in two Grades. With the overall winner, Ben Bamborough (80/68) being rewarded with medal after a count back.

Simon Dale (74/68) and Andrew Forbes (86/68) both had fantastic rounds, but Simon came away with the best back nine to take the win in A Grade.

It took another count back in B grade to determine Kevin Eastwood to be the winner, with his (98/72), leaving Bob Wagner in second place.

Thursday’s ladies 18 hole event lead to yet another count back and Lyn Delmenico just knocked out Tracy Lee, with both finishing on 34 points.

Linda Dickson grabbed a second win for the week, putting together a lovely 19 points in the nine hole comp, with Leonie Nott runner up, on 16 points.

Nick Goodieson played well in the Friday medley nine hole, winning on 22 points, with Peter Shadwick second on a fine 21 points.

Saturday’s oppressive weather kept the numbers low for the ladies but Ros Nash walked away winning on 32 points.

In the men’s on Saturday Steve Spooner had an excellent game, pumping out 41 points to win A grade. 

Craig Douglas on 38 points filled second place, after a count back with Larry Cavallaro.

The B grade win went the way of Dwaine White, on a nice 38 points, with a three way count back for runner up, leaving James Taylor the better, in front of Kev Maginness and Gary Van Steenis.

With no reprieve to the sweltering conditions on Sunday Henry Ulawi burnt his way around the course, completing his round of 43 points to be a clear winner. 

Ian Fleming was next in line on 36 points, after a count back with Mick Innes.

RED CLIFFS

NATHAN Riordan was the winner in last Wednesday’s medley Stableford with 41 points from Mick Hogan on 37.

Nearest the pins went to Jeff Scott on the eighth, also claiming the Pig, Susan Poole also on the eighth, Di Morrall on the 15th and Jill Gleeson on the 17th.

Saturday was a medley Stableford and the fourth round of the Summer Cup, with 43 players braving the heat.

Tom Minns with 40 points took the chocolates with Phil Shaw one point back.

NTPs went to Steven Farley on the third, Glenys Murray and Brett Overton on the eighth – with Brett getting the Pig – Jill Gleeson  and Angelo Ganz on the 12th, Di Morrall and Brett again on the 15th and Angus Dearlove on the 17th.

MILDURA

A BIG field of 98 Mildura men played single Stableford on January 20. 

The A grade winner was Nick Katis who scored 40 points and won the count back from Geoff Hazeldine. 

Peter Rhodes had 39 points to finish third. 

Nigel Ingram was in good form and had 39 points to win B grade from Ron Rowse and Alan Lay, both on 36. 

The good scores continued in C grade, where Simon McCarthy was the winner with 40 points from Geoff Crozier and  Chris Mitchell both on 37 points. 

Nearest the pin prizes went to James Hancock (first hole, 180 cm); Trevor Rogers (second hole, 112 cm); and Chippa Kolpin (12th hole, 183 cm).

The twilight 9 hole Stableford competition on Friday was won by Ferdi Bergamin who score 19 points; Sandra Hutchinson was second with 18 points, and Mabel Crouch also scored 18 points to finish third on count back.

Saturday was a 4BB Stableford which was won by Terry Hill and Mark Pullman who scored 46 points. 

Geoff Cameron and Alan Lillia scored 45 points to finish second, on countback, from Graeme Polkinghorne and Greg Toma.

The Mildura veteran mens stableford competition  on Monday was won by Cliff Ferguson who scored 34 points. 

Dennis Grigg won the nearest the pin prize on the 12th hole with a hole in one; and seven players with a score of 28 points or better won a golf ball.
