Wednesday, December 16 saw a good field take on the royal with the win going to Des Foreman with a solid 38 points.
Saturday, December 19 was Medallist of the year for 2020. Frank Zambito got the bragging rights with a very impressive 88/69, a well-deserved trophy as he took home two monthly medals throughout the year.
The stroke event was won by Craig Hocking with a cracking round of 78/66 (we promise not to tell anyone about the 18th, mate).

MILDURA
A good field of 76 players turned out for the annual Pugsley and Young 4BBB stableford competition on Wednesday, December 16, with 20 pairs scoring 40 points or better.
The winners, on a three-way countback, were Jeff Chalmers and John Edwards who scored 46 points; second place went to Chris Mitchell and Dennis Clark also on 46 points; and third were John Williams and Greg Toma, also on 46 points.
The 9-hole twilight competition on Friday, December 18 was won by Elaine Henshall who scored 20 points; Bev Stone was second on 19 points; and Val Whitelaw scored 18 points to take third place.
The men’s stableford competition on Saturday, December 19 was in three divisions, and 26 players with a score of 35 points or better won a ball. A grade was won by Peter Hartmann with 44 points;
Joe Rocca scored 41 for second, and Lee Tucker was third on 39 points. Peter Briggs won B grade with a score of 39 points; Phillip Nash was second on 38 points, and John Edwards third with 37 points. John Harvey scored 42 points to win C grade; and a countback on 39 points was necessary to decide that Ken Stanbrook was second and Ian Nimon was third. Twenty-six players with a score of 35 or better won a ball. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Rob Toms (first hole, 229 cm); Ian Nimon (second hole; pig prize 184 cm); Andrew Keogh (tenth hole, 430 cm); and Adam Philp (twelveth hole, 20 cm).
A dozen Mildura veteran golfers braved the drizzle on Monday 21 December to play their usual stableford competition. Cliff Ferguson was the winner with 34 points, from Dennis Grigg on 33, and George Poriazis on 32.
Golf events at Mildura for the rest of December are a men’s single stableford on Wednesday, December 23, then social play only on Christmas Day; a 4BBB stableford and 4BBB stroke on Saturday,
December 26; medley stableford on Sunday, December 27; Mildura vets stableford on Monday, December 28; ladies stableford on Tuesday, December 29; and men’s stableford on Wednesday, December 30.

RIVERSIDE
Monday, December 14 was rewarding to Brian Young, after he finished with a fine 38 pts to win, over Jim Callaway (36pts).
Kaye Ballantyne’s 18 pts, was the best score in the Ladies Nine Hole comp on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s Men’s Stableford saw Grant Giddings winning A Grade after his excellent 40pts, in front of Michael Holcroft (39pts).
Graham Sievewright went one better in B Grade for his win, coming in with the score of the week, a fantastic 41pts, from Kevin Eastwood (36pts).
Our curator, Tim Peterson, had a ripper on the Par four 13th, smashing out an Eagle.
The 9-hole Ladies Stableford on Thursday was a winner for Pat Riordan (16pts).
Caroline James just snuck in to win the 18 holes, after a count back against Teresa Hagen, both on a very nice 39pts.
Aaron Wilkie took out the Nine Hole Medley Stableford on Friday with 20pts. It was a three way count back for runner up and Peter Winslow came out the better, followed by Ray Cottle and Nic Cairns, all on 18pts.
Janette Mason played a great game on Saturday, winning on a lovely 38pts, with Teresa Hagen grabbing second place on 36pts
The men’s comp on Saturday was in three Grades, with David Gardener taking out A Grade on 36pts, over Simon Dale, on 35pts.
Darren Gray had a super round in B Grade, pumping out 40pts for a win. John Wass was the better in a count back for second, with Mark Lee just missing out, both on 37pts.
Peter Williams made his 35pts count in C Grade, winning, just one shot in front of Neil Lawlor on 34pts.
Darren Gray played the Par four, ninth perfectly, picking up an eagle.
Sunraysia & District Veteran Golfers Association
The veteran golfers managed only five rounds or just on half of the scheduled events for 2020.
We had to adopt to restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite these hardships we have been able to enjoy the best of playing at a district level.
We played at various district course with other veterans, completed our Championship round and finished with our traditional Christmas game.
We have had new members joining us and that included Greg Rhodes, Doug Poole and Brian Williams this month. We enjoyed the continuing support of local clubs and our sponsors. We have started our summer break and are looking for a more normal new year.
At a state level we have been informed that we have an interim Captain Brian Hazel and interim Secretary/treasurer Richard Olson.
State levies have been waived for next year but plans are in place to conduct a 4BBB championships at Hamilton on 22nd and 23rd of March.
At the district level, we will next meet at Mildura on March the first next year.
