RIVERSIDE
TWO of Sunraysia’s most accomplished golfers, who could have proven a threat to any Australian professional, were rewarded with yet another win to add to their many previous accolades at the weekend.
The men’s Riverside Open Champion for 2020 was Greg Rhodes and Michele Philp (nee Fumberger) took out the Ladies scratch, both winning by one shot.

Ladies scratch
A grade: winner Michele Philp (74-84=158), from Jenny Stephenson (77-82=159).
B grade: winner Lorraine Palmer (94-93=187), from Emmalee Beggs (91-96=187) after a count back.
Ladies handicap
A grade: winner Jenny Stephenson (71-76=147), from Deb Hassell (74-75=149).
B grade: winner Emmalee Beggs (71-76=147), from Pat Riordan (77-72=149) after a count back with Lorraine Palmer (75-74=149).
Men’s scratch
A grade: winner Greg Rhodes (72-73=145), from Daryl Morgan (75-71=146).
B grade: winner Jake Kiel (88-84=172), from Atu Akima (87-85=172) after a play off.
C grade: winner Gary Van Steenis (94-91=185), from Dean Doolan (97-98=195).
Men’s handicap
A grade: winner Oscar Mannix (72-75=147), from Steve Spooner (78-71=149) after a count back from Dennis Williams and Tony Coppola.
B grade: winner Jake Kiel (73-69=142) from Atu Akima (73-71=144).
C grade: winner Gary Van Steenis (72-69=141), from Dean Doolan (71-72=143).
Karyne Scheer maintained her good form on Tuesday to win the 18 hole comp on a very nice 38pts, over Jeanette Mason’s 35pts.
Pat Riordan took out the nine hole Stableford with 17 points, from Lyn Saunders (16 points).
The men played for their monthly award on Wednesday, with the overall best score going to Ray Cottle (91/72) after a count back.
John Fraser (90/72) won A grade, but not before a count back against Greg King (87/72).
Neil Johnson’s 72 net gave him the B grade win after his 98 off the stick.
Jimmy Stephens (100/75) put him in second place after a five way count back against Michael Burton, Les Ball, Kevin Challis and Bruce Liddell.
The ladies Christmas wind up last Thursday was a day filled with fun, laughter and special catch-ups.
The Ambrose event was a winner for the team of Margie Dunlop, Jeanette Mason, Chris Wilson and Val Berry, celebrating on 69 net, just a half a shot in front of second placed team, Pat Riordan,
Marie Hudak and Riverside’s most senior member, Anne Parker. Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford was won by Tracey Lee with a lovely 24 points.
A count back saw Peter Welling pick up runner-up, followed by John Thompson and Gary Van Steenis all on 20 points.
MILDURA
Shay Toma had a win at Mildura last week.
EIGHTY-seven Mildura men played single Stableford in two grades on December 9.
In A grade Shay Toma was the winner with a great score of 42 points, winning a voucher to spend in his own store.
Second place went to Wayne Manley on 37 points, and Joe Rocca was third with 36 points.
B grade required a countback on 38 points to decide that Terry Buckingham was the winner, John Simpson was second, and Paul Wilton was third.
Balls were awarded to 21 players with scores of 34 points or better.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Wayne Manley (first hole, 122 cm); Paul Treacy (second hole 440 cm, plus the pig prize); Neville Hodgetts (10th hole, 390cm); and Rob Pallot (12th hole, 64 cm).
The twilight nine hole competition on December 11 was won by Elaine Henshall who scored 19 points; Marlene Charlesworth was second on 18 points, and Sandra Hutchinson was third, also on 18 points.
Balls were won by players with 17 points or better, on countback. The men’s Stableford competition on December 12 attracted 114 players and was in three grades.
A grade was won by Rob Pallot who scored 40 points, Tom Crouch was second on 39 points, and Graeme Polkinghorne scored 37 points to finish third.
In B grade, Tony Matthews had 38 points and won on countback from Alan Lay, with Cliff Ferguson third on 37 points.
The best net score of the day was in C grade, where Tony Dal Corobbo had 41 points for a win over Doug Matthews on 39 and Chippa Kolpin on 38.
Balls were awarded to players with scores of 34 points or better on countback.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Keith Williams (first hole, 500 cm); Wayne Gill (second hole, 257 cm, which also won the Pig prize); Neville Hodgetts (10th hole, 410cm); Mark Deacon (12th hole, 180 cm).
Lee Tucker had an Eagle on the 11th hole to win six balls.
The winner of the veteran’s competition on December 14 was Alan Steedman who scored 38 points; Alan Wishart was second with 35 points; and Keith Williams was third, also on 35 points.

RED CLIFFS
Last Wednesday winning A grade with a plus one was Mark Wilson, making him the only player to finish better than square. Runner up was Nev Birch who was square with the card.
Rita Chase also finished square which was good enough to win B grade on a count back from Sandy Marwood.
Balls went to Ray Pain, Margaret Stanbrook, Julianne Wood, Jeffrey Scott, Ron Baird, Neville Walker, Jan Boyce and Phil Shaw.
Nearest the pin: eighth Geoff Smith and Rita Chase; 12th Michael Hogan; 15th Rita Chase; 17th Bobbie Ramsay; 18th Neville Walker.
Saturday’s game was stroke and second round of the Ray Pain Summer Trophies.
Winners of the daily competition were: in A grade Jill Gleeson on 71 net from Steve Farley on 72 net,.
The B grade winner was Rita Chase on 71 net from Naomi Pitt on 72 net. Balls went to Mal Goodieson, Andrew Wood, John Fiippi, Neville Birch, Terry Pain, Ron Baird and Ben Tallent.
Nearest the pin: fifth Bruce Mathieson; eighth Mark Collett; ninth Rita Chase; 12th Jill Gleeson and Ben Tallent; 15th Jill Gleeson and Don Fiorillo; 17th Terry Pain.
Winners of the Ray Pain Summer Trophies were: A grade Steve Farley with rounds of 73 and 73 from John Filippi 74 and 73.
In B grade the winner was Don Fiorillo 73 and 76 from Terry Pain 79 and 75.
The ladies winner was Jill Gleeson 70 and 71 from Rita Chase 82 and 71.
