Greg Rhodes wins Riverside Golf Open

GREG Rhodes has claimed another local golf open tournament for the season with a thrilling one shot win over Mildura Open winner Daryl Morgan at Riverside over the weekend.

Rhodes added the Riverside Open title to his wins at Coomealla and Merbein, making it three out of five for Murray Darling Golf Association major events in 2020 for the Coomealla Golf Club golfer.

Rhodes was made to work for by Red Cliffs club champion Morgan, who was fresh off his first district open win a fortnight ago at Mildura.

Rhodes carded 72 on Saturday, with Morgan three shots back, before Morgan stormed home with a 71 on Saturday.

But Rhodes held on, finishing with 73 to give him 145 shots for the weekend to Morgan’s 146.

Michele Philp (nee Fumberger) won the Ladies A grade scratch section from Broken Hill’s Jenny Stephenson.

Jake Kiel was the B grade scratch winner with 172, from Atu Akima after a playoff.

C grade scratch was won by Gary Van Steenis, 185, from Dean Doolan 10shots back.

Lorraine Palmer won the B grade scratch with 187 from youngster Emmalee Beggs on a countback.
