Rhodes wins Coomealla Open golf tournament

GREG Rhodes has taken out the district’s first golf open of the year after an eight-shot win at the Coomealla Open over the weekend.

Rhodes came in with 142 off the stick to come in comfortably ahead of runner-up Ashley Whitehouse (150 on a count back).

Rhodes won his first Coomealla Open in 1984, with this year marking his 23rd win.

Alan Scorer was the A grade handicap winner with 144 net, with Joseph Rocca runner-up on 145 net.

Rocca’s 159 scratch saw him win the senior open title.

Sudiran Aping’s 167 off the stick netted him the B grade open title with David Martin two shots back.

Ben Doherty’s 143 net had him the B grade handicap winner by two shots over Keegan Blows.

Doherty also won the junior scratch and handicap section with that net score and 171 off the stick.

Steve Morrell was the C grade scratch winner with 185, one shot clear of Ron Moore.

John Blake took out the C grade handicap, carding 140 net.

This was also enough for him to win the senior handicap title.

Dylan Bottams was runner-up in the men’s C grade with 145 net.

Sue Laird was the women’s open winner with 157 scratch, from Jennifer Stephenson (167 on a count back).

Carrol Zimmermann won the handicap title with 141 net, from Deb Hassell (149 net on a count back).

This weekend is the Red Cliffs Open, the first open event to be held in Victoria since COVID-19 pandemic restrictions eased.
