COOMEALLA

ROSS Bowen was a winner in A grade with 37 points at Coomealla last Wednesday.

He took the victory from Phil Matotek with 36 points on a count back from David Martin.

Geoff Sayers (42 points), Toby Cardew (41) and Graeme Burrows (37) were the placegetters in B grade, with Aaron Duck (42), Wayne Scheer (38) and Ralf Wagner (36) the placings in C grade.

Balls went from 42-34 points.

On September 30 Paul White had an eagle on the 13th hole and on Saturday Andrew Stewart had an eagle on the eighth hole and Jacob Slimmon had an eagle on the 12th hole.

Today is the women’s second round of the club championships and Saturday is the third round of both the men’s and women’s championships.

MILDURA

THE ladies played their “ladies nine” and 18 hole stableford competitions on September 29. 

The nine hole competition was won by Isobel Westhead with 22 points, and Amy Plush was second on 19 points. 

The 18 hole competition was won by Carol Zimmerman who scored an impressive 41 points, and Margaret Morrison was second with 37 points. 

Ball winners were awarded to the above players, plus Bev Matthews, Val Whitelaw, and Fran Richards who scored 35 points or better. 

The nearest the pin awards went to Susan Walmsley (first hole, 910 cm); Janet Stanbrook (second hole, 158 cm); and Carol Zimmerman (10th hole, 0 cm).

The men played single Stableford in three grades on September 30. 

Wayne Gill scored 39 points to win A grade from Andrew Stanbrook, and Robert Young, both on 37 points. Luke Jowett won B grade on 39 points, from Adrian Wade who scored 38 points, and Doug Matthews was third on 35 points. 

Ferdi Bergamin managed to win C grade by scoring 38 points and beating Geoff Crozier on countback, with Chris Delahunty third on 32 points. 

Balls were won by 23 players with scores of 33 or better. 

Nearest the pin prizes went to Wayne Gill (first hole, 117 cm); Graeme Polkinghorne (second hole 270 cm, which also won the pig prize); Phillip Nash 10th hole 293cm); and Peter Rhodes (12th hole, 150 cm).

The men’s monthly medal on Saturday attracted 120 players, and was held in three grades. 

Ron Leamon had the best net score of the day, net 66, to win B grade from Rick Foster (net 67) and Kenneth Byrne (net 67). C grade scores were also exceptional, with Don McConnell scoring net 68 for a win from Frank Poole (net 70) and Brian McMillan (net 71). In A grade, John Hardie scored net 70 for a win from Rob Donaldson and Steven Fumberger, both on net 72.

Overall, 90 of the 120 players scored less than net 80, which probably reflects the good weather conditions, excellent condition of the golf course, and the skill/practice/luck of individual golfers.

RIVERSIDE

SO many happy golfers at the moment, now competition is back in full swing with exceptional fields. Monday’s Stableford was a beauty for Ron Hall, winning with 41pts, over John Wass (38pts), after a count back with Gavin Irvin.

Tuesday Ladies Stableford saw Lisa Garioch winning on 37pts, from Wendy Dawson (36pts). Liz Wallace won the nine hole with 21 points.

Men’s Wednesday Monthly Award was taken out by John Wass, with an excellent (84/68) after a count back.

The A Grade win went to Rob Garioch, with a super (80/68). 

Andrew Thomas (71/69) collected second place, after a count back against Justin Bullock (86/69).

Robin Ferris won B grade on a mighty (92/68). 

A count back for runner up went to Brad Mottram (90/70), over Les Ball (98/70).

Ladies Monthly Medal on Thursday saw an elated Linda Dickson (103/76) when she won B Grade and was rewarded with the Medal.

Sandra Eastwood (107/77) grabbed runner up after a count back with June Hensgen (110/77).

Karyne Scheer had a 92 off the stick, for 77 net putting her on top in A grade, but not before a count back with Liz Wallace on (103/77).

Carol Benning won the putting, after 29 putts, with Marie Hudak and Cath Eddie missing out on a count back.

Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford gave John Marlais the win (21 points), from Tezza Simpson (20 points), after a count back with Adam Schelfhout.
Saturday saw a brilliant 41points from Gaye Briggs to win the ladies Stableford, just one point in front of Marie Irvin on a very nice 40 points.

Karyne Scheer was pleased with her Eagle on the 17th on Saturday.

The Men’s Stableford in two grades, produced the weeks best scores. Shawn Clarke amassed 43 points winning A Grade, from Seb Raiti (41 points), after a count back with Tezza Simpson. Noel Bile won B Grade, pumping out 43 points over Atu Akima (40 points).

Winner of Sunday’s medley Stableford was Simon Bartsch (39 points) from Edward Campbell (37 points). 

RED CLIFFS

WEDNESDAY ladies Stableford A Grade Winner was Julianne Wood on 32 points from Margaret Stanbrook on 31 points. 

In B Grade Margaret Storer was the winner on a countback from Jenny McCoy both on 28 points. 

Ball winners were Dee Hopkins, Kay Hart, Joan Ryan, Suzanne Johns and Jill Gleeson. NTP: third Liz Leach; eighth Marg Stanbrook; 12th Joan Ryan; 15th Suzanne Johns; 17th Leanne Walmsley.

Winner in the men’s competition was Neville Walker on 39 points from Paul Bamford on 38 points.

Ball winners: Don Fiorillo, Neville Birch, Mark Aitkin, Neil Wilkie, Gary Nunn and Michael Hogan.

Saturday the ladies played Stableford with Kay Hart winning A grade on a countback from Deanne Davis both on 33 points. In B grade Denise

Morgan on 36 points was the winner from Jill Eyles on 35points.

Ball winners were Julie McEwan, Julianne Wood, Joan Ryan, Fay Ross and Catherine Lanigan.

NTP: third Jill Gleeson; eighth Chris Taylor; 12th Susan Gathercole; 15th Bobbie Ramsay; 17th Dee Hopkins.

The men played a four ball aggregate Stableford, winners were Lewis Gunn and Ben Tallent on 71 points from Greg Young and Steve Johns on 70 points. 

Balls went to Don Fiorillo and Peter Manno, Nathan and Glen Riordan, Graeme Duffy and Andrew Wood, Mal and Jeremy Goodison, Graham Lohmeyer and Jason Plant.

MERBEIN

IT was Jimmy Pippin’s day on Wednesday, scoring an easy 43 points to win, whilst on Saturday, Kenny braved the windy conditions and shot a 78/68 to win by one shot over Popey and pick up another monthly medal. There were some impressive cricket scores carded on Saturday in the tough conditions.

Winner: J. Pippin 43 points, runner-up G. Kerr 39 points. Balls: A Rudd 39 points, runner-up M. Holding 37 points.

Memberships are now due and can be paid online or at the club.

VETERANS

THIRTY-three vets braved the cold and blustery conditions to contest Monday’s event. 

The Merbein Golf Course lived up to expectation as players agreed that it was in great condition.

The winners of the single Stableford competition in A grade were Keith Williams on 39 points with John Green in second place with 34 points. 

Keith was able to adapt to the conditions as his score was a full three points ahead of the next best. 

Peter Gilmore’s 36 points secured him the B Grade win while Geoff Cameron was runner up on 34 points.

The ball winners needed 29 points with the final ball allocated on countback. The recipients were Doug Matthews, Neale Price, Maurice Munro, Lorey Rogers, George Mason, Peter Dooley, Peter Knight and Ned Klemm.

The challenging conditions resulted in only two players winning nearest the pin prizes. 

Brian Young was closest on the third and Peter George on the 16th. 

The eighth and 12th proved to be too difficult.

Players were treated to a great lunch courtesy of the locals. Thank you to the club for its organisation on the day.

Our next event will be held at the Riverside Golf Club. It will be the rescheduled Championship round to be held on November 9. 

It will also be our annual general meeting venue. 

Eligibility to play has been changed due to the Covid restrictions that have been in place. 

Players will need to have participated in one round this year rather than the usual two to qualify. It will be a stroke event.

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S Stableford event was won by Bill Slee with 40 points on count back from runner up Max Hodges.

Ball winner Bill Murray with 31 points. Nearest the pin again Glen Walker with 345cm on the second.

Mr Risky went to Ged Chapman with just 23 points.

Sunday’s golf was rudely interrupted by the weather but get used to it.

Ged Chapman showing some resistance to win with 73 net. Runner-up and a long way behind was Bill Slee with 81 net.

Ball winner Annette Green 83 net.

NTP Ged Chapman 125 on the 12th .

Mr Risky to Max Hodges with 91 net.
