MILDURA

GOLF at Mildura is on the way back to “normal” operations, subject to the requirements for social distancing and wearing of masks.

The greens have been cored and the course is in excellent condition.

It is necessary that all players, particularly green fee players, register at the golf shop before play, so that contact tracing can happen if any person subsequently becomes ill with COVID-19.

The ladies played their Friday/Saturday Stableford competitions last week, with Emmalee Beggs scoring 39 points, for a win over Margaret McGlashan on 38 and Bev Matthews on 37.

The men played single Stableford in two grades on Saturday.

The Mildura veteran golfers played single Stableford on Monday when Paul Treacy continued his good form to win with 39 points, Cliff Ferguson was second on 38, and Frank Tippett had 36 points for third place.

VETERANS

AFTER negotiations with the Merbein Golf Club and following the easing of COVID restrictions, the next round for district vet members is on.

Veterans will play a single Stableford competition on Monday, October 5, with the usual 18-hole event and nearest the pins, however the winners and prize presentations will be announced later.

The usual procedure of registering between 8.30am and 9am applies, but golfers only be required to pay $15 dollars for the green fee, competition entry and lunch.

The reduced cost is the association’s way of supporting members and district clubs at this difficult time.

The same conditions that apply at district clubs will be in force for that day, including social distancing, hygiene requirements, one person per cart and wearing of masks.

If players wish to hire a cart they must contact the club ASAP as they are in short supply.

The recent rain and a concerted effort by members has resulted in the course being presented in the best condition for some time and, as such, a good field is expected to attend.

This club always supports the district vets by providing a great lunch and this time will be no exception.

Lunch will be catered to comply with COVID standards and the usual drinks will be available.
