Bottomley coming up aces to claim family bragging rights

COOMEALLA Golf Club ladies’ captain Lee Bottomley has further enhanced her reputation as one of the region’s best players, after scoring her third hole-in-one for the year.

Playing at Riverside Golf Club last Thursday, Bottomley aced the 18th hole, adding to the two previous holes-in-one she had this year at her home club, Coomealla.

And while Bottomley was in shock to see her ball roll into the cup, her playing partner, Kath Eddie, never had any doubt.

“To be honest I really couldn’t believe it,” Bottomley said.

“Kath (Eddie) said to me – “that’s going in the hole” as soon as I hit it.

“Honestly I didn’t believe her, but it bounced on to the green and we saw it roll in.”

It is the second time Eddie has witnessed her regular playing partner ace a hole. She was also alongside Bottomley when she did it on 11th hole at Coomealla on May 24, while her husband Darren and son Matt witnessed her first, which was also at Coomealla at the seventh hole.

Bottomley said last week’s achievement had also provided her with “bragging rights” at home.

Up until last Thursday, she and her husband Darren, had both scored two holes-in-one apiece, Darren’s coming 20 years earlier at Wentworth Golf Club.

“As soon as I saw the ball go in I called my husband (Darren) to tell him,” Bottomley said.

“He couldn’t believe it – I was pretty keen to let him know. I certainly now have the bragging rights at home.”

There is certainly no shortage of golf talent within the Bottomley household, with son Matt playing off a handicap of two, Darren also a single figure player off eight, while Lee is off five.

Bottomley, who also carded her best ever round this year, a 70 off the stick, is hoping COVID-19 restrictions will be relaxed in the coming weeks, allowing her to cross the border into NSW to play in Coomealla’s Golf Club’s annual championship.
