VETERANS
THE Sunraysia and District Veteran Golfers Association is an affiliate member of the Victorian Veteran Golfers Association (VVGA).
Our members are registered as members of the state association when they pay their annual fee.
VVGA members are eligible to participate in club competitions and to represent districts in state and national tournaments.
As the district secretary, I regularly receive emails from George Thorne who is the state secretary of the VVGA.
Recently he sent me an email that sought feedback from the Australian Veteran Golfers Union on a proposal from the New South Wales Veteran Golfers.
Information is being sought on whether the age to be eligible to join associations as a veteran be lowered from 55 years to 50. There was no request for a formal ballot of members, but rather an indication was sought on the likely support for this motion.
This issue had been discussed at the local level and our association had already adopted the change.
I was able to send George an email stating our willingness to support the proposition.
So far I have been informed of eight replies across the state. There have been five no responses and three yes responses.
There has been no further correspondence and, as far as I am aware, no decision has been made. The district events will continue to allow participants who are 50 years of age to play.
When that next district event will be is still not finalised. Let’s hope it’s as soon as next month.
