VETERANS

WITH an optimistic glass half full attitude it would be great to believe that the district vets events could continue after last month’s successful day.

More realistically, the odds are stacked against the running of our next proposed competition at Robinvale. We are monitoring the situation and will make a definitive decision by this time next week.

Our last event complied with the requirements of social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions.

All members were aware of the need to protect the health of colleagues, to ensure the host club was not liable for breaches and we had an opportunity to financially support a district club.

Numbers reflected the enthusiasm and willingness of players to return to a more normal season.

The next venue presents unique challenges. Firstly, there is the fact that we will have to travel more than 100km each way.

At present with the restriction applied to Victorians travelling in New South Wales this will mean travelling the longer route through Hattah.

There are additional limitations imposed now.

Players would be required to play in pairs and the club cannot hire carts to any person under the age of 65 unless the individual has a medical certificate that specifies that it is a health necessity.

In the event that we must cancel we must remember that we are fortunate to be allowed to play golf in this time of lockdown.

District clubs will be able to conduct their own competitions and if all goes to plan there is real optimism that our October event will go ahead.

MILDURA

The good news is that golf is still being played at Mildura, but competitions are still not allowed under stage 3 coronavirus restrictions and no more than two golfers are allowed in a group.

Despite the restrictions, golfers are able to enjoy a game, the weather is good, and the two players per group seems to space out the field nicely.

The Mildura golf shop is open and bookings can be made online, or by ringing the golf shop on 5022 8089.

There is a high demand for golf bookings, so book early.  Tee bookings are required for contact tracing in the event of a virus case, as well as making sure the number of golfers on the course is not excessive and everyone can enjoy their game.
