VETERANS
FOLLOWING the success of last Monday’s veteran golfers association’s competition there seems to be sufficient support for our next event.
We had a good field that included five new members and we participated in a safe and enjoyable round of golf.
It was the first day that the compulsory wearing of face masks came into effect and it was tremendous to see all members looking out for each other and the community.
However it seems as in politics a week is a long time in golf.
The revised COVID-19 restrictions came into effect just two days after the Red Cliffs round.
Local golf clubs have already made changes to the way they conduct business.
These add to the complexity of conducting our next event. The venue is Robinvale for a Stableford competition.
With the closing of the border by the New South Wales government it means that unless you have the required permit players would not be allowed to travel across the bridge.
We will need to use the alternative route through Hattah.
Although the five kilometre travel restriction does not apply to country Victoria the need to travel around one 100 kilometres each way is contrary to the strategy that travel and interaction between places needs to be limited.
If the next round is to be cancelled then our October round will be after the six weeks duration of this current lock-down.
We will continue to negotiate with clubs, members and authorities to ensure we have as much information as possible to make an informative decision.
Currently it appears that once again this next round is unlikely to go ahead.
RIVERSIDE

Golfers are however still permitted to play socially in groups of two, adhering to the wearing of face masks.
Hiring of golf carts is no longer permitted unless the person has a medical reason or is over the age of 65.
One person per cart, still applies, unless you are living in the same household and the above criteria applies.

Peter George wasn’t going to allow A grade to take all the glory when he also had an excellent 41 points for his win in B grade. Keith Willis was three behind, to grab runner-up on 38 points .
Two eagles came from Wednesday’s game. Jarrad Stokker on the par five 14th and Noel Thomas on the par five 5th.
The last competition for the next six weeks was the ladies monthly medal and putting.
With 34 in the field, the event was played in two grades.
Verna Wakefield smashed out a magnificent overall score, to be rewarded with the medal after her (98/70).
This also gave her the honors in B grade and to top off her day, she also excelled in the putting, winning with 28 putts.
The runner-up in B grade was Ayse Jewitt, with 98, 71.
Ninette Mammone had a 94, 74 to win A grade from Lisa Garioch 84, 75 who picked up second place.

Riverside recently lost one of its long standing members. Nan Young was a proud and respected member and will be sadly missed.
