Competition golf suspended

COMPETITION golf in Victoria is suspended until stage 3 restrictions are lifted.

Although players can continue to play in pairs for exercise while adhering to guidelines including face coverings and social distancing, a Golf Australia spokesman confirmed no competition is allowed by government order despite handicapping being able to continue through non-contact means.

“Handicapping of scores through non-contact means that players can submit their score for handicap calculation but it can’t be via a written scorecard (which the health authorities deem as being a risk because of all the handling of cards),” the spokesperson said.

“Clubs here in Melbourne are using a phone app where players fill in their own scores and submit them.”

Similarly lawn bowls can also continue with two players per rink and 10 per green with face coverings and social distancing, but no club competitions are allowed.
