MILDURA
THE Mildura ladies nine hole Stableford competition on Tuesday, July 28 was won by Amy Plush with a score of 14 points, on countback from Isobel Westhead, also on 14 points. Jean Moore won the NTP prize on the 2nd hole with a measure of 160cm.
The ladies 18 hole stroke competition on the same day was in two grades. A grade was won by Mabel Crouch with net 73, and Sandra Hutchinson scored net 74 for second place.
Janet Stanbrook scored net 73 for a win in B grade, and second place went to Kim Ingram with a score of net 75. Carla Sherriff won the NTP on the 1st hole (1350cm); Glenys Anderson managed to win the NTP on both the second (335cm) and 10th hole (37cm); and Jan Mierswa won the NTP on the 12th hole (350cm).
The mens competition on Wedneday was single stableford in three grades. Kane Brown won A grade on countback from Rob Toms, both on 37 points, with Greg Rhodes scoring 36 points for third place.
In B grade, there was a countback on 38 points required to determine that Dennis Grigg won from Noel Hedwards, with Ron Rowse third on 37 points.
The countbacks continued in C grade, where a countback resulted in a win for Brad Fox, and Tony dal Corobbo was second, both on 39 points, and Snapper Lyell had 38 points for third.
The NTP prizes went to Nigel Donachie (1st hole, 137 cm); Trevor Rogers (2nd hole, 210 cm, which also won the pig prize); Brad Fox (10th hole, 320 cm); and Stephen Reberger (12th hole, 94 cm).
The mens monthly medal on Saturday was a single stroke competition in three grades.
Countbacks in A grade were necessary to determine that Stewart Cameron won with net 72 and Joe Rocca was second on a countback; Paul Leonard (net 73) was third, and David Murray (net 73) was fourth.
The best net scores were in B grade, where Wayne Dahmes was the winner (net 65); Michael Sette (net 67) was second; Peter Rhodes (net 67) was third, and Nigel Ingram (net 69) was fourth. Peter Dooley was in good form and won C grade with net 76; from Peter Briggs and Ian Nimon who both scored net 71.
The NTP prizes were won by Neale Price (1st hole, 220cm); Steve Crawford (2nd hole 5cm) and Kane Cameron won the pig prize (122cm); and Greg Rhodes won on the 10th hole (140cm) and the 12th hole (381cm).
The stableford medley competition on Sunday was won by Kane Brown who scored 38 points, and Madeline Jukes was second on 37 points.
The Mildura veteran mens competition on Monday gave players the opportunity to experience golf with a face mask, which did not seem to affect scores. Jeff Giddings won by scoring 40 points, Paul Leonard was second on 38 points, and Steve Peters was third on a countback. Mick Killeen won the NTP on the 12th tee with a measure of 490cm.
WENTWORTH
BIG scores were the order of the week which in turn produced some very good individual scores.
Thursday’s Stableford saw Howard Hankinson hand out a lesson with 40 points, winning quite comfortably.
The Phantom, Glen Walker, was runner-up with 37 points .
NTP: Garry Bourke 275cm on the 17th .
Mr Risky went to Ron Moore with 27 points .
Sunday’s Stroke round saw Bill Murray handed out a lesson of his own with 68 net.
Runner-up was Damian Fairley with 74 net.
Excitement surrounded the 12th green when Wiley Bill Murray aced it. Congratulations Bill.
Mr Risky for the second week running went down to the wire with the captain Bill Slee winning on a countback.
RIVERSIDE
RIVERSIDE recently lost one of its long standing members. Nan Young was a proud and respected member and will be sadly missed.
Last Monday we started the week with a three way countback with Rob Arnold coming out on top, Noel Murray was runner-up and Peter Welling was the unlucky one, as they all finished on 36 points.
The ladies Stableford on Tuesday was played with a nine and 18 hole competition. Maggie McIntyre collected the 18 hole with a fantastic round of 41 points, in front of Dot Knight on 38 points.
Di Benham put together a nice 18 points in the nine holes to win. A group of five players battled for second place, all on 17 points. Runner-up went to Val Easterbrook, with Carol Benning,
Meg Hamence, Julie Holland and Sally Watson missing the cut.
A mighty field of 92, played in the men’s Stableford on Wednesday, in two grades.
Dale Meredith had a super game in A grade, winning on 41 points, over Brad Pitt on 38 points.
Keith Willis was the winner in B grade on 36 points, but he had seven chasing him on 35 points.
Tim Nunan grabbed second place, while Kevin Eastwood, Bob Wagner, Michael Englefield, Laurie Riordan, Paul Scott and Gavin Minter all had to be happy with the fresh air, exercise and good company.
The ladies Stableford on Thursday also attracted a great field, with 40 Ladies enjoying the magnificent weather.
It’s pleasing to see Janet Luke putting in some terrific rounds lately, this time winning A grade with an excellent 40 points.
A countback Caroline James runner-up, in front of Lisa Garioch, both on 37 points.
Maeve Fraser was happy with her win in B grade after a very fine 37 points, with Linda Dickson next in line.
Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford saw 59 hitting the fairways.
Michael Salter won with 21 points. Five players were in the running for second place, which went to Bodan Bishop, in front of Tom Wilkinson, Jamie Donaldson, Peter Winslow and Brad Surgey, all on 19 points.
Saturday’s ladies Stableford saw 40 playing and two grades.
Janet Luke continued to maintain her amazing form, grabbing another win in A grade, after completing a round of 39 points, with Margie Lampard close behind, in second place on 38 points.
Esther Tamata’s very nice score of 39 points gave her a comfortable win in B Grade, followed by runner-up, Sandra Eastwood, after a countback against May Connolly, both on 35 points.
It was a huge day on Saturday, with 142 men contesting the Stableford in three grades.
Simon Dale took out A grade on 39 points, three in front of Tom Vadlja, Spephen Day and Peter Duscher all on 36 points.
Joe Lando had a winning score of 41 points in B grade over Tuarii Turaki (39 points).
Peter George had a score of 40 points for his win in C grade followed by Clinton Leavold on 39 points.
Sunday’s Medley Stableford saw the round of the week. Steve Peterson had an outstanding 42 points for his win, five points clear of a group of three on 37 points.

MERBEIN
PERFECT conditions over the week saw a couple of good scores carded.
Matt Vining with his new irons shot a 86-66 to win on Wednesday.
Saturday saw Marlon Fraser shoot a 93 for a nett 68 to win.
Bryn Shaw scored 37 points on Sundays Stableford competition.
Good to see a lot of green fee players out on Saturday and Sunday taking advantage of the warmer weather.

RED CLIFFS
WEDNESDAY was the first round of the singles knock out so there were lots of winners.
In the men’s Stableford competition Mick Morrall ran himself into good form for the club champs scoring 38 points to win from the captain, Jeff Scott who had 37.
Keith Rogers maintained his good recent form scoring 39 points to win B grade from John Plut who had 36.
Saturday saw the first round of the men’s club championships with the second round on Sunday.
Leaders after the two rounds are A grade Daryl Morgan with 69-73 total of 142 followed by Ben Hogan 84-77 total 161 in B grade Robert Stewart is leading 88-91 total 179 followed by Keith Rogers and Al Rayner both on 185.
C grade leaders Geoffrey Smith on 196 followed by Brett Overton and Tom Ryan both on 201.
On Saturday in A grade Daryl Morgan had a super round of 69-1, 70 net from Jeffrey Scott on 71 in B grade Lewis Young on 72 from Noel Douglass on 74.

On Saturday the ladies played Stableford and the winners were in A grade Sue Poole on 37 points from Deanne Davis on 35 on a countback.
B grade winner was Noreen Smith on 35 from Jenny McCoy on 34 on a countback.

WEDNESDAY’S men’s A grade was won by John Coleman on 70 net. Runner-up was Sean Bromley 70 net and third was Mark Hann 72net.

VETERANS
AFTER cancelling or postponing five events over the last four months due to COVID restrictions 37 district veteran golfers were able to contest a single Stableford event on Monday.
Our host was the Red Cliffs Golf Club who organised the event staged in accordance with COVID requirements.
All members wore the compulsory face mask and exercised appropriate social distancing throughout the day.
The association welcomed five new members which include our first female member.
In A grade the winner was Jason Appo with a score of 36 points.
John Green was the runner-up with thirty five points. With the highest score of the day Jimmy Stephen’s 42 points gave him victory in B grade.
Bev Matthews score of 36 gave her the runners-up prize.
Nearest the pins prizes were again won by Neil Price who managed to be closest on the 8th and 12th greens while Cliff Ferguson managed a great hit on to the 15th and Keith Williams won on the 17th.
Our next scheduled event is listed as a single Stableford game at Robinvale on September 7.
