MILDURA
THE ladies nine hole stableford competition on Tuesday, July 14, was won by Fran Thornton who scored 19 points and won the countback from Isobel Westhead. However, Isobel won the nearest the pin prize on the second hole with a measure of 900cm.
The 18 hole stableford on the same day resulted in a score of 37 points and a win to Eily Raeck in division one. Valerie Whitelaw scored 34 points for second place, and Sandra Hutchinson had a nearest the pin of 646cm on the first hole. Susan Walmsley won the NTP on the second hole (800cm); Ruth Rodi won the NTP on the tenth hole (61cm); and Sandra Folie had an NTP of 421cm on the twelfth hole.
The men played single stableford in three grades on Wednesday, July 15. Joe Rocca won A grade with 37 points, from Peter Miatke on 36, and Neale Price on 35 points. Larry Finis scored 40 points in B grade and won the countback from Ernie Tyrrell, with Ron Rowse finishing third on 37 points. Colin Hagenbach scored 39 points for a win in C grade; with Ivan Robinson second on 38 points, and Ross Williams third on 37 points.
The nearest the pin prizes were won by Geoff Hazeldine (first hole, 125cm); Rob Toms (second hole, 122cm, which also won the pig prize);Ron Leamon (tenth hole, 275cm); and Ross Bowen (twelfth hole, 162cm).
The mens stableford competition on Saturday, July 18 was also in three grades. A grade was won by Michael White who scored 42 points, from Paul Leonard second and Graeme Polkinghorne third, both on 40 points.
Fred Stewart scored 39 points to win B grade on countback from Simon Kelly, with Andrew Stanbrook third with 38 points.
In C grade, Mick Killeen had a good day, scoring 40 points for a win over Jeff Lay on 38 and Ivan Robinson on 37.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Graeme Polkinghorne (first hole, 82cm; and second hole, 186cm, which also won the pig prize); Trevor Spanos (tenth hole, 130cm); and Dennis Mclaughlan (twelfth hole, 502cm).
A field of 30 Mildura veteran golfers played single stableford on Monday 20 July, and the winner was Paul Treacy with 41 points, from Jeff Giddings on 40, and Doug Matthews on 36. The rest of the scores were respectable, with 21 of the 30 players scoring 30 points or better.

LAST Wednesday the men played stroke for the Monthly Mug with Mark Woodhouse winning A grade with a 70 nett, runner-up was Ross Robertson 70 nett and third was Alan Scorer 72 nett.
B grade winner was Brendan Bower 70 nett, runner-up Glen Martin 73 nett and David Guild 73 nett.

The ladies stroke Monthly Medal was won by Ninette Mammone 73 nett and runner-up Jenny Smith 74 nett.

THE stableford event played last Thursday at the Wentworth Golf Club was won easily by Donny Sproh with 40 points. Runner-up was Ged Chapman 34 points.
NTP: Ron Moore 132cm on the 2nd.
Mr Risky went to Shane McManus, a visitor with 22 points.
Sunday’s stroke went to “giggling’ Annette Green with 70 nett. The handicapper has you this week being cut to 29.
Runner-up Bill Slee on 74 nett.

Mr Risky with 85 nett went to Tom Clark.
MERBEIN
SOME good scoring across the week started on Wednesday with D. Williams playing well with 40 stableford points just nudging out P. White with 38 points.
On Saturday Jason Binding had his first competition win shooting a 101/67 and dropping a few shots off his handicap in the process.
Beautiful conditions on Sunday had Bear Lanigan wining on a countback from G. Kerr both scoring 36 points.

WITH the NSW borders closed, Coomealla members who live in Victoria have taken to Riverside in numbers, joining our $120 three month membership. pushing our fields up nicely.
A terrific day for Ian Fleming last Monday in the veteran and friends stableford.
There was a two point buffer, with Ian finishing on a super 41 points over Peter Welling on 39 points.
Tuesday was a nine hole par for the ladies and Kaye Balantyne showed she has what it takes to win, completing an exceptional round of +4, followed by Liz Wallace, just one behind on +3.
The men’s stableford on Wednesday was played in two grades.
It took a countback, in A grade, to separate winner, France Wilmann and Runner up Travis Biddle after both ended their games on 37pts.
Laurie Riordan’s 35 points gave him the top spot in B grade with Jim Callaway on 34 points in second place.
Tim Peterson played a good game and left with an eagle on the par five, second hole.
Sometimes things are just meant to happen and Thursday it was one of those days.
The ladies played a 3BBB stableford, which was the farewell day for our ladies captain, Linda Young.
The day turned out just perfect, with the winning team of Linda Young, Lyn Thompson and Jen Stephenson, bringing home a fabulous score of 50 points and a huge applause from all players.
Second place on a lovely 48 points, went to the trio of Jenny Bower, Margie Dunlop and Jen Leach.
Friday’s nine hole stableford required a countback, after the top three finished on a very fine 20 points. Peter Winslow had a win, Shane Johnson took runner-up and Rob Arnold just missed the cut.
Lorraine Palmer and the ladies new captain May Connolly played nice rounds on Saturday, with both finishing on 36 points. Lorraine in first place, followed by May.
A big field of 109 set out on Saturday in the men’s stableford with Aldo D’Amico putting together a pleasing score of 38 points in A grade, Oscar Mannix was second on 37 points.
Michael Grigg, from Northern Golf Club, won B grade on a countback from Craig Storer, both completing their 18 holes with the equal best scores of the week, a magnificent 42 points.
RED CLIFFS
ON Wednesday Nev Birch blazed his way around the course scoring 42 points to win the men’s A grade from Mick Morrall who had 36. B grade winner was Al Rayner on39 points from Keith Rogers on 38.
In the ladies competition Julianne Wood on 35 points was the winner in A grade from Jill Gleeson on 34. Chris Taylor had a fine 40 points to win B grade from Sandy Wright on 36.
Saturday’s competition with 110 in the field was stroke and Monthly Medal for both the ladies and the men. Men’s winners were in A grade Matt Bottomley on 3 handicap had 69nett from Jamie Wood on 71nett.

VETERANS
THE next event of the Veteran’s Golf Association is on track. This follows feedback from players from district clubs who want the day to go ahead.
Due to be held on August 3 at the Red Cliff Club it will be conducted to ensure competitors are safe and all arrangements will comply with COVD-19 and personal space rules.
It will depend on current restrictions remaining in place and not becoming stricter. Hand sanitizer will be available for player use.
Registration will end at 9am to enable groups to be sent to allocated starting tees.
Phone numbers will recorded as part of the registration process.
The cost will only be $10 to cover green fees as no meal is provided.
Drinks will be available for purchase from the club. Players are asked to bring along the correct cash to minimise the handling of money.
Winners will be announced in this article and individuals contacted to collect prizes as no presentations will be made on the day.
It will be a single stableford round with players scoring their own cards, having markers verbally confirm its accuracy before handing it to the organisers.
NTP will be awarded on all par threes. A honesty system of stepping out distances will be used as no flags can be handled.
Players are not permitted to share carts and as there are limited numbers available for hire it is recommended that you contact the club as early as possible.
