RIVERSIDE
WITH the Riverside Summer Open on this weekend, many visitors took advantage of the Australia Day public holiday to get out to practice.
The two-person Ambrose saw 92 players compete in hot conditions, with all enjoying a social get-together on the 19th afterwards.
Ian Riley and Ray Cottle put in a super round of 61.25 net to win the men’s competition in front of Brett Millington and Sam Pipicelle (62.50), who took out second after a countback against Paul Reed and Al McMaster.
The mixed event saw Kerry and Chris Grimmer finish with 67.25 to just scrape in for the win with the runner-up team of Sandra and Mark Luitjes were only 0.25 behind on 67.5.
Steve Wilmann and Aaron Jeffery were the top performers in the scratch section with an excellent 65 off the stick. Jarrod Stokker and Alex Spooner’s 67 saw them second.
NTPs were: Michael Holcroft (fourth, 204), Matthew Mason (seventh, 380), Lorraine Palmer (seventh, 520 – for the ladies), Ray Cottle (12th, 375) and Jarrod Stokker (18th, 117).
Wednesday was Stableford for the men in two grades.
President Alan Connolly battled against Andrew Hill in a countback for A Grade honours, both having 38 points. Connolly nabbed top spot with Hill accepting runner-up.
In B Grade, David Lloyd and Brad Surgey had a similar contest after they completed rounds of 37 points. It was Lloyd who walked away the winner, but Surgery would have been happy to have picked up second.
NTPs were: Keith Willis (fourth, 145), Michael Holcroft (17th, 171) and George Riordan (18th, 339).
Captain David Williams was not going to be left floundering after Connolly’s win, popping up to take out Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford on very fine 22 points in magnificent weather conditions.
NTPs were: David Williams (10th), Gavin Graham (12th), Peter Williams (13th), Ian Riley (14th), Gary Van Steenis (15th) and Jamie Donaldson (18th).
Saturday was a 4BBB Stableford for the ladies and Pat Riordan and Maree Irvin had a win with 40 points.
NTPs were: Tracey Coulson (12th, 118) and Lisa Garioch (18th, 10).
The men also played a 4BBB Stableford with the pair of David Coulson and Maurie Munro producing an exceptional score of 47 points to collect the win over Darren Gray and Paul Graham (44).
NTPs were: Michael Holcroft (fourth), Rob Arnold (seventh), Paul Graham (12th, 480) and Peter Ellery (18th, 253).
Sunday’s medley Stableford was a ripper for Larry Cavallaro, who finished on 40 to win in front of Jim Callaway (38) after a countback from Nicholas George.
NTPs were: Simon Dale (fourth, 550), Jim Callaway (seventh, 266), Marty Scott (12th, 370) and Damien Arney (18th, 550).

WENTWORTH
WEDNESDAY’S chicken run went down to the wire, with Ged Chapman returning to form with a very good 41 net.
The runner-up was Tom Clark with 48 net. Third were Bill Slee, Don Reid and Jeff Robinson, all 49 net.
Thursday’s Stableford winner was wily veteran John Stephens, with 41 points, from Donny Sproh (35).
NTP was Sproh (12th, 850). Mr Risky went to to Chapman with 19 points.
Sunday’s stroke saw Howard Hankinson find his form with a 70 net to win from Slee (71).
Mr Risky went to Jeff Robinson with 92 net.
The WHS is now in force and all handicaps have been returned to normal.
RED CLIFFS
WEDNESDAY’S medley Stableford was won by the ever-consistent Faye Englefield with a score of 39 points.
The runner-up was Deb Hassell on 36 points.
NTPs were: Mick Morrall (eighth), Jeffrey Scott (12th) and Jill Gleeson (15th and 17th).
On Saturday only 25 played in very hot and humid conditions.
Congratulations went to Daryl Morgan for carding a fantastic 66 off the stick. This included consecutive eagles on the ninth and 10th. The runner-up was Bob Merlin on 72 net on countback from Ian Doering.
NTPs were: Morgan (third), Michael Hogan (fifth and eight), Gleeson and Steve Farley (12th), Hassell and Farley (15th), Morgan (17th) and Scott (18th).

MERBEIN
KENNY Matulick and Howard McGaffin played just under their handicaps to win on Monday and Wednesday respectively.
A. Finch played well in the muggy conditions on Saturday, shooting two under his handicap to win a shirt for the monthly medal.
The Monday Australia Day winner was K. Matulick, 37 points, from F. Drayton (35).
The Wednesday winner was McGaffin (37) and the runner-up was T. Fitzpatrick (36).
Saturday’s monthly medal stroke winner was A.Finch, 81-11-70; the runner-up was J. Finch (91-20-71.
NTPs were: A. Fairlie (second, 15), R. Redman (eighth, 920) and A. Finch (16th, 183).

Cooler weather this week should make for more pleasant conditions to play but players are still able to tee off early in the morning if it suits. Remember, you can lock in a tee time on the “one golf” site.
MILDURA
THE women’s Stableford competition on Tuesday was highlighted by Emmalee Begg’s brilliant score of 47 points, well clear of runner-up Sue Walmsley (35) and Carla Sherriff (32).
NTPs were: Mabel Crouch (second, 1020) and Sandra Hutchinson (12th, 531).
Wednesday was a par event in two grades. The winner of A Grade on +4 was Trevor Rogers from runner-up Barry Pilgram (+2). Gavin Tellefson was third (+2).
Wayne Dahmes enjoyed his round on the day, winning the B Grade section on +4. A countback for second place went to Alan Steedman from John Green (+2).
NTPS were: Terry Buckingham (second, (132), Maurice Warn (12th, 175), Paul Leonard won the pig pin prize and Shay Toma started his round with an eagle on the par-4 first.
The winning roll continues for A Grade player Rob Toms, who this time collected the monthly medal with a fine 69 net in Saturday’s stroke competition.
The runner-up in A Grade was Josh Mcaskill (70) and third was Troy Germaine (74).
The B Grade win went to David Merry (69) from Andrew Stanbrook (70) and Jeff Chalmers (71).
The countback in C Grade awarded the monthly medal to Ferdi Bergamin from Ken Byrne (71) and Peter Briggs (74).
NTPs were: Arron Blake (28), Kane Cameron (260), Peter Hartman (132) and Gavin Harrington (175).
The winner of this week’s veterans’ competition was Boof Ferguson on 37 Stableford points, closely followed by Denis Grigg and George Poraizis (36).
NTPs were: Andy Steedman (second, 156) and Eric Jenner (12th, 420).
