RIVERSIDE

AS we all letting out a sigh of relief for the cool change last Sunday, we should all be taking our hats off and applauding the amazing bravery and heroism our firefighters have shown over these past weeks and months.

Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by these horrific bushfires.

Sadly we have had to farewell one of Riverside’s past lady members. Bev Sipek lost her battle at the weekend.

She was a very respected and loved member who will be missed by many.

Monday of last week a small field played in the Veteran and Friends Stableford, but never the less a pretty special score (42 points) from Greg King gave him a very comfortable win over Neil Lawlor (38).

It was a medley Stableford on Tuesday with Dwaine White finishing on 38 points to win, from runner-up, Michael Englefield (37 points).

NTPs were: Dwaine White (fourth, 415) and Glenn Goodall (seventh, 615).

Wednesday’s New Years Day’s medley Stableford was played in two grades.

It took a countback to determine the placings in A Grade, with Grant Docking taking the top spot, followed by France Wilmann, both on a fine 39 points.

Jason Brown played a rewarding game, finishing on a super 41 points to win over Brad Surgey on a pleasing score of 39 points to be runner-up.

Nearest the pins were Jim Callaway (fourth, 64), Greg King (12th, 20) and France Wilman (18th, 790).

Par was the game for the ladies on Thursday and Verna Wakefield was very happy to come away with the win after her nice +1.

Tracey Coulson was square, which was enough to leave her in second place.

NTPs were Roz Nash (fourth, 575) and Wendy Dawson on both (seventh, 400 and 18th, a birdie). Friday’s nine hole Medley Stableford was determined by a countback, with Riley Austin just scraping in for a win, over Tezza Simpson, both on 23 points.

NTPs were: James Brown on both (13th and 18th) and Jim Callaway (15th).

Roz Nash had a stunner on Saturday in the Ladies Stableford, producing 42 points and putting eight points between her and her nearest rival, Tracey Coulson, on 34 points.

NTPs were: Pat Riordan (fourth, 515cm), and Wendy Dawson, once again collecting two (12th, 200 and 18th, 340cm).

There must have been so many hanging out for a game, after the rush and tear of Christmas and the slightly cooler conditions on Saturday gave the men a pretty good reason to step back onto the fairways.

Stableford was the game in two grades and George Riordan played very well and was rewarded with the win after a great score of 40 points.

France Wilmann grabbed second place from Ned Klemm after a countback on 39 points.

But the best scores for the week, came from Seb Raiti and Keegan Lee in B Grade, both smashing out scintillating scores of 45 points.

The luck fell the way of Seb, with Keegan accepting second place.

Jamie Tresize (Thaxted Park) walked off the par-four 13th all smiles, after two magnificent shots for an eagle.

NTPs were: Gavin Graham (fourth, 290cm), George Riordan (seventh, 345cm), Zep Deckert (12th, 460cm), Grant Giddings (17th, 290cm) and Keith Willis (18th, 200cm).

Oscar Mannix went around the 18 on Sunday without a worry, collecting 38 points along the way for his win, in front of runner-up Jon Slatter on 36 points.

NTPs were: Peter Trezise (fourth, 100cm), Brendan Rowse (seventh, 7cm), Jon Slatter (12th, 450cm) and Michael Holcroft (18th, 246cm).

Coming events: Today – Stableford. Thursday: Ladies – Stableford, plus a nine-hole Stableford. Friday: All day play – nine-hole medley Stableford. Saturday: Men’s – Stableford. Ladies – Stableford. Sunday: medley Stableford.
