RIVERSIDE

RIVERSIDE held its AGM last Tuesday, with a new committee being elected. 

First, congratulations must go to the outgoing committee for a job well done.

The new-look Riverside general committee for 2020 will be president Alan Connolly, vice-president Leigh Fuller, captain David Williams, vice-president Steve Spooner, Ladies captain Linda Young, vice-captain May Connolly, manager David Gardiner, curator Tim Peterson, secretary

Maeve Fraser and treasurer Lyn Thompson. Extra committee members are Pat Riordan, Ash Whitehouse and Michael Holcroft.
It was also a special night for one of the ladies members. 

A very worthy and deserving honour went to Lorraine Palmer, who was awarded a life membership for her dedication and devotion to the Riverside Golf Club for the past 20 years. Congratulations Lorraine.

Monday’s Veteran and Friends Stableford was a beauty for Michael Englefield, after he completed a super round of 44 points to blitz the field. 

His nearest rival and runner-up, Keith Willis, had 38 points.

NTPs: Ian Fleming (18th, 400cm).

Tuesday, the ladies played Stroke and Margie McIntyre (Torquay) was the winner after a countback against Kaye Ballantyne, (both 108/77).

NTPs: Marie Hudak (12th, 415cm) and Sally Watson (18th, 300cm).

Wednesday was Stableford in two grades for the men.

Gary Sharman smashed out an amazing 45 points, for a very comfortable win in A Grade, in front of Ned Klemm on 39 points.

In B Grade it was a win to Kevin Challis with his fine 38 points over Graham Sievewright 36 points.

A lovely eagle by Andrew Thomas on the par-four 13th left him with a grin from ear to ear.

NTPs: Andrew Thomas (fourth, 360cm), Jarrad Stokker (seventh, 138cm), Ned Klemm (17th, 245cm) and Jon Slatter (18th, 294cm).

Margie McIntyre took advantage of her stay in Mildura collecting another win. 

This time in Thursday’s Stableford, when she put in a great round to come home with 40 points. 

Lyn Thmpson was close behind, in second place after her 39 points.

NTPs: Lyn Thompson (fourth, 795cm), Sandra Eastwood (seventh, 950cm), Lorraine Palmer (12th, 55cm) and Cath Kent (18th, 87cm).

The nine-hole competition on Thursday saw Liz Wallace sneaking in a win on a nice 18 points in front of Sally Watson on 17 points.

Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford was a winning day for James Minns, with a nice 21 points over runner-up Darren Woolfrey on 20 points.

NTPs: Bodan Bishop on the second, Peter Williams on the fourth, David Byrnes on the fifth, Paul Graham on the  seventh and Tom Wilkinson on the ninth.

The ladies’ Stableford on Saturday brought another good game from Lyn Thompson, completing a round of 37 points, with Ros Nash picking up second place on 36 points.

NTPs: Lyn Thompson (fourth, 515cm), Pat Riordan (12th, 345cm) and Wendy Dawson (18th, 62cm).

It was par for the men on Saturday and it was nice to see France Wilmann back in the winners’ circle.

Winners and runner-up in both grades finished with +3 and both required a countback.

France grabbed A Grade over Jeramiah Johnson and Kevin Challis took the honours in B Grade with George Riordan runner-up.

NTPs: Chris O’Brien (fourth, 312cm), John Fraser (seventh, 205cm), Dominic Glenister (12th, 420cm), Jeramiah Johnson (17th, 94cm) and Kevin Challis (18th, 288cm).

Sunday’s medley Stableford was won by Shane Johns with a great score of 39 points. 

It was a countback for runner-up, with Chris Curley just getting the nod over Andrew Thomas.

There was reason for Andrew to be pleased though, as he came away with a super eagle on the par-five 11th, plus a couple of nearest the pins. 

NTPs: Andrew Thomas (fourth, 80cm and 12th, 369cm). Andrew Hill was closest on the (seventh, 270cm).

WENTWORTH

WEDNESDAY’S chicken run was won convincinglyby Jeff Robinson with 30 net, making it back-to-back victories – the handicapper has him in his sights.

Runner-up was Glen Walker with 37 net and Tom Clark (42 net) was third. 

Thursday’s Stableford event was again won by inform Ged Chapman with 39 points.

Ged also eagled the first hole to send him on his way.

Runner-up was Bill Murray with 37 points

NTP: Glen Walker on the second with 580cm.

Mrs Risky to Annette Green with 17 points.

COMMEALLA

WEDNESDAY’S men’s stroke A Grade winner Andrew Rix 77/68 net, runner-up Mark Hann (72/71 net) and third Mark McDonald (76/72 net).

B Grade winner was Ken Forster (93/68 net), runner-up Daryll Walker (92/70 net) and third Terry Albion (89/ 70 net).

NTPs: Third, John Gray 640cm, seventh Chris Holland 25cm, 11th Craig Tung 49cm, 18th Peter Duscher 151cm.

Wednesday’s ladies’ Stableford winner was Jenny Smith (37 points), runner-up Gail Elder (35 points).

NTPs: Third Karyne Scheer 108cm, seventh Jenny Smith 254cm, 11th Pam Turner 86cm, 18th Kate Murdoch birdie.

Friday’s medley nine-hole Stableford winner was Justin Freeman (22 points), runner-up Mark Hann (19 points).

NTPs: 11th Mark Hann 126 cm, 18th Peter Duscher 900cm

Saturday’s Stableford A Grade winner was Matthew Pasco (40 points), runner-up Steven Portelli (38 points) and third Mark Hann (38 points).

B Grade winner was Greg Chandler (37 points), runner-up Darryl Laird (36 points) and David Lewin (36 points).

C Grade winner was Daryll Walker (39 points), runner-up Kerry West (38 points) and Ken Dobbin (38 points).

NTPs: Third, Justin McPhee 165cm, seventh, Jeff Rose 132cm, 11th, Peter Chase 390cm, 18th, Jeff Stewart 425cm.

Wednesday’s ladies’ Stableford winner was Janice Walker (38 points), runner-up Cath Eddie (37 points).

NTPs: Third, Jackie Horkings 16cm, seventh, Elizabeth Jan 420cm, 11th, Sally McOrist 20cm, 18th, Linda Jakubans 58cm.

Sunday’s medley Stableford winner was Lachlan Cottrell (42 points), runner-up Paul Scott (38 points).

NTPs: Third, Darren Bottomley 272cm, seventh 392cm, 18th Linda Jakubans 440cm.

MILDURA

THE Mildura ladies played a 3BBB game to celebrate their Christmas break-up last Tuesday. 

The winners were Elaine McMillan, Elaine Henshall, and Carla Sherriff with 22 points. 

Rhonda Young, Sheryleen Mclashan, and Sandra Hutchinson were second with 19 points on countback from Kim Ingram, Marilyn Warn, and Sue Walmsley.

The men’s Stableford competition on Wednesday was in two grades and the best scores in A grade were Shay Toma, playing off a handicap of one (42 points) for a win over Rob Toms (41) and John Williams was third with 39 points. 

Robert Shipsides won B Grade with 37 points from Philip Nash and Greg Buchanan, both on 35 points. 

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Trevor Rogers (first hole, 316cm), Trevor Baust (second hole, 380cm, which also won the pig prize),

Robert Young (10th hole, 86cm) and Billy Fishwick (12th hole, 138cm). 

Shay Toma scored an eagle three on the 11th hole, which won him three balls.

The Telstra Twilight competition on Friday was won by Carla Sherriff, who scored 20 points and Nathan Willis was second with 19 points.

The Stableford competition on Saturday was in three grades. 

The best score of the day was in A Grade, where Maurice Warn had 42 points to win from Robert Young (38 points) and Gary Fumberger (37 points). 

Cameron Kane won B Grade with 39 points from Ronald Lyell on 36 and Phillip Nash on 34 points. 

Lachlan Cottrell won C Grade by scoring 40 points with Wayne Davis second on 39 and Lawrence Smith third on 36 points. 

Sue Walmsley won the ladies’ section with 29 points. 

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Greg Toma (first hole, 108cm), Steve Peters (second hole, 360 cm), Shay Toma (second hole, pig prize, 0cm), Bruce Dickie (10th hole, 410cm) and Andrew Keogh (12th hole, 390cm).

Events for the next week at Mildura are stroke for the men’s Monthly Mug today, the Telstra Twilight nine-hole competition and ladies’ 18-hole Stableford on Friday, men’s stroke event for the Monthly Medal and ladies 18-hole stroke competition on Saturday, medley Stableford on Sunday, the veterans’ Stableford on Monday, ladies’ nine or 18-hole Stableford on Tuesday and men’s 18-hole Stableford next Wednesday.

VETERANS

DESPITE being the second day of summer, the 51 veteran golfers experienced winter-like conditions on Monday. 

They were competing in the last round of this year’s fixture at the Riverside Golf Club. 

The windy conditions presented golfers with a challenging day as they competed in a single Stableford game. 

The field was boosted by the inclusion of four visitors who were enjoying a riverboat holiday and two new intending members.

Despite the weather, good scores were achieved. 

In A Grade the winner was Ron Leamon with a score of 37 points. 

It took a countback to determine that John Green was the runner-up with 35 points. 

In B Grade Mickey Burke was the overall best scorer with 38 points, which gave him a win with another countback needed to establish that John Denman was runner-up.

Ball winners were Lori Rogers, Brian Young, Maurice Munro, Greg King, Keith Vale, John Fraser, Alec Cattanach, Dennis Grigg, France Wilmann, Rob Arnold and Tony Dal Corobbo.

Nearest the pin winners were Keith Vale on the fourth, Cliff Ferguson on the seventh, Vern Morrish on the 12th and John Green on the 18th.

The recipients of the incentive awards were, in A Grade, Keith Rogers, Ron Moore and Gary Sharman and, in B grade, Kevin Jones, Maurice Munro and Cliff Young.

Keith Willis was presented with a trophy for his ace in last month’s competition.

The district vets will take a summer break before starting the next round in March 2020.

RED CLIFFS

ON Wednesday the ladies dominated the par competition, Marg Stanbrook leading the way with a plus six to win A Grade from Jill Gleeson, who had plus two. 

In B Grade Gayle Fitos had plus one to win from the only bloke on the winners’ dais, Bill Woosnam, who finished square.

NTP: eighth Jeffrey Scott and Joan Ryan, 12th Ray Gillard, 15th Jill Gleeson, 17th Ron Baird.

Saturday’s game was stroke for the November Monthly Medal. 

Jill Gleeson was in brilliant form to win A Grade with 79/13, 66 net, from Mal Blagus on 70 net. 

In B Grade Rodney Gray also in good form with 99/31, 68 net, from Chris Chase on 71 net.

NTP: Ffith, Ian Doering, eighth, Jill Gleeson and Rod Gray, ninth, Jill Gleeson, 12th, Deb Hassell, 15thm Liz Leach and Rob Stewart, 17th, Tim Pain, 18th, Rob Stewart.
