VETERANS
On Monday, the Red Cliffs Golf Club hosted the Sunraysia District Veteran Golfers.
In warm and windy conditions a field of 41 players contested a single stableford event.
The A Grade event was won by George Poriazis with a well earned 35 points.
In second place was John Green with 33 after a countback was needed to separate players. In B Grade the winner was Ray Pain with the day’s top score of 37. After another countback, John Denman secured second place with a score of 35.
The ball winners this week were Mick Burke, Maurice Munro, Bruce Mathieson, George Mason, Keith Rogers, Dennis Grigg, Ron Leamon, Vern Morrish, Rob Chase and Terry Buckingham.
A highlight of this week’s Nearest the Pin competition was a hole in one by Keith Willis on the 17th.
Not only did it win him the usual bottle of wine but Keith will be presented with a trophy for this exceptional effort. Congratulations Keith on your first ace. The other winners were Ron Moore on the third, Alan Steedman on the eightth, Allan Connolly on the 12th and Jim Calloway on the 15th.
The AGM resulted in the appointment of a new treasurer, Tony Dal Corobbo, while president Kevin Jones, captain John Green and secretary Brian Young retained their roles. Thank you to outgoing treasurer Des Zimmerman for his contribution over the last few years.

Our next event will be held at the Riverside Golf Club on Monday, December 2. It will once again be a single stableford game.
It will be our Christmas celebration meeting and the last event of 2019.

MERBEIN
SRS played an Ambrose in fours on Sunday.
A great day was had by all, a big thankyou to Sandra Hutchinson for organising this great event and all the volunteers that helped before and on the day of the event.
Monies raised will help both SRS and the Merbein Golf Club.
The winners were M. Thomson, A. Fairlie, M. Dean and M Turvey shooting a 60/53.5.
A. Rudd played some superb golf to win comps on both Wednesday and Saturday.
Wednesday: Winner: A Rudd 37 points. Balls: M Thomson 34 points, F Crouch 33 points.

The men played single stroke in two grades for the monthly mug awards on Wednesday, November 6.
Josh McAskill won A Grade with net 70, from Cliff Ferguson on 72 and Jim Murphy on 73. The best net score was in B Grade, where Robin Hubble won with net 69, from John Simpson (net 70) and Dennis Grigg (net 72). Balls were awarded to 16 players with net 75 or better.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Nigel Ingram (first hole, 600cm); Josh McAskill (second and also the pig prize, 320), Kenneth Byrne (10th, 780cm, and 12th, 410m), Gary Fumberger (12th, 442) and Trevor Rogers (18th, 123).
The ladies celebrated Oaks Day with a nine hole Stableford on Thursday, November 7, which was won by Glenda Hiskins (19 points), from Carla Sheriff (18 points). Marilyn Warn won the nearest the pin prize on the second (100cm).
The Telstra Twilight competition on Friday, November 8 was won by Thomas Ferguson who scored 19 points; beating Frank Tippett on countback. Craig Tung had 17 points for third place.
A big field of golfers played Single Stableford in three grades on Saturday, November 9. Club captain, Rick Foster, scored 34 points which won him A Grade, from Peter Hartmann and John Hardie, both on 33 points.
The best scores were in B Grade, where Mark Pullman won with 37 points, Nigel Ingram also had 37 points but was beaten on countback, and Michael Sette was third with 34 points.
Ken Stanbrook won C Grade with 36 points, from Mick Killeen on 35 and Alan Wishart on 34. Twenty two balls were handed out to players with 32 points or better.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Fank Crouch (first, 320), Andrew Stanbrook (second, 174, which also won the Pig prize); Paul Wilton (10th, 498) and Peter Hartmann (18th, 295). Mark Pullman cleaned out the eagle’s nest with an eagle on the 12th, which won him nine balls.
Golf events for next week at Mildura are a men’s 4BBB Stableford today, which will include the new par-five 18th hole, a ladies’ 18-hole Stableford and the nine-hole twilight competition on Friday.
Single Stableford for men and ladies on Saturday, a scramble on Sunday (online entries required at www.VWscramble.com.au); the Mildura Veterans Stableford on Monday, a ladies’ nine-hole Stableford and 18-hole stroke to decide Medallists of the Year; and a men’s 18-hole Stableford on Wednesday, November 20.

RIVERSIDE
MEDALLIST of the Year was contested last week for the men and Tezza Simpson was proud to have his name included on the board as the 2019 winner.
The Veteran and Friends comp on Monday of last week was won by John Wass with 39 points, followed by Jim Callaway on 36 points.
NTPs: Greg King (seventh, 1190 and 18th, 142).
It was a Medley Stableford on Melbourne Cup Day and Paul Reed produced an excellent 41 points for a comfortable win. It took a countback to determine the runner up, with Shane Johns just sneaking in over James Minns, both on 37 points.
NTPs: James Minns (fourth, 335) and Ned Klemm (seventh, 700).
The A Grade winner of Wednesday’s Stableford was Peter George, after his round finished with a great 41 points, in front of Colin Robson on 37 points.
Rob Arnold took out B Grade on a mighty 43 points, with John Denman in second place with a lovely 41 points.
NTPs: Tom Wilkinson (fourth, 85), Greg King (seventh, 182), Ian Dickason on both (12th, 485 and 17th, 186) and Malcolm Kalms (18th, 610).
The ladies held a nine-hole four-person better ball Stableford on Thursday, followed by some Oaks Day fun.
The winning team after a countback was Sandra Eastwood, Marg Arnold, Prue Hyde and Roz Nash which came in with 26 points, in front of May Connolly, Verna Wakefield, Jenny Bower and Pat Riordan.
The Friday nine hole medley Stableford, saw a field of 11 play their way through the dust.
Twenty points from Paul Graham was the winning score. A countback determined Tezza Simpson as runner up on 19 points, with David Woolcock just missing the cut.
NTPs: Tony Scullino on the 14th and Jamie Donaldson on the 18th.
Saturday’s ladies Stableford was a beauty for Carol Benning, taking the honors with 41 points and a comfortable thirin, in front of Wendy Dawson on 38 points.
NTPs: Lyn Saunders (fourth, 142), Helen Burke (seventh, 620), Tracey Bryan (12th, 63) and Lisa Garioch (18th with a Birdie).
The men also played Stableford on Saturday, with Andrew Hill collecting A Grade on a fine 38 points. It was a countback for second place, with luck going Tezza Simpson way, over Ned Klemm, both on 36 points.
David Williams had a super 42 points to win B Grade, with another countback on 36 points for runner up.
John Wass came in with the best last nine to collect second over Max Watt.
NTPs: Jared Mallyon on the (fourth, 104 and 12th, 990), Ken Upton (17th, 895) and David Gardiner (18th, 215).
Greg King picked up the NTP for the week on the seventh.
A score of 38 points from Claude Dawson took out the Sunday Stableford.
It seems like 36 points is the countback number this week. It was a three way this time, with Mick Innes runner up over Oscar Mannix and Gavin Minter.
The Riverside General AGM will be held on November 26 and 7pm.

THE winner from last Wednesday’s men’s Stableford event was Bruce Mathieson on 42 points from Andrew Wood on 38 points.

On Saturday the ladies played Stroke with Jill Gleeson winning on 73nett from Kath Cattanach on 74nett.

The men played stroke for the Medallist of the Year.
In A Grade Craig Douglass was the winner on 72nett from Mal Goodieson on 74 on a countback. B Grade winner was Geoff Smith on a countback from Peter Knight both on 72nett.
Balls went to Walter Graham, Barry Martin, Affie Ganz, Jeffrey Scott, Ken Woosnam, Ian Mitchell, Rohan Hillier, Chris Merlin and Glen Goodall.

Coming up this week on Wednesday the ladies have their final day for 2019, they will play a 3BBB Stableford followed by lunch and yearly presentations.
The men will play Stableford off the white markers. Saturday will be Medley Stableford and the first round of the Summer Cup.
The men’s presentation night is on Friday, November 29.

LAST Wednesday’s men’s Stableford A Grade winner was Trevor Carroll 42 points, runner up Anthony Davies 38 points and third was Paul Roach 37 points.
B Grade winner was Chris Holland 44 points, runner up Paul Mattthews 39 points and third Mac Warchow 36 points.
