MILDURA

MADELINE Jukes won the ladies’ A Grade scratch at the club championships, held over three rounds, with scores of 79-94-82. Carol Zimmerman was second. 

Sue Walmsley (95-103-94) won B Grade scratch and Marilyn Warn was second. The C Grade scratch winner was Kaylene Geddes (112-105-108) and Donica Foster was second. 

Handicap winners and runners-up were Mabel Crouch (72-70-76) and Eily Raeck (78-78-73) in A Grade, Walmsley (71-79-70) and Jan Mierswa (80-75-80) in B Grade and Foster (73-77-74) and Geddes (79-72-75) in C Grade.

After three rounds, the men’s championship winner and runner-up in A Grade were Cameron Stewart (74-72-77) and Glen Marr (79-76-82).

In B Grade, Paul Leonard (81-82-81) held off Frank Crouch (90-82-86) and in C Grade it was Tony Beyen (92-88-96) over Rod Truman (99-90-88). 

The handicap winners and runners-up were Gary Fumberger (70-66-80) and Stewart (73-71-76) in A Grade. Leonard (70-71-70) and Ray Quirk (76-72-73) in B Grade and Alex Barber (64-75-73) and Jeff Lay (77-64-75) in C Grade. 

Marr (237) won the veterans’ scratch and Leonard (211) won the veterans’ handicap.

The Mildura ladies played single stroke on Tuesday. 

In A Grade, Walmsley was the winner on 71 net and Jukes scored 73 to take second. 

Donica Foster was the winner in B Grade with 75 and Kaylene Geddes (76) finished second. 

NTPs were: Sue Burgess (first, 521), Margaret McGlasshan (second, 450, and 10th, 167) and Crouch (12th, 218).

The men played single Stableford on Thursday. Geoff Hazeldine scored 39 points to win over John Williams (37) and Col Harrison (36). 

NTPs were: Keith Williams (second, 300, ands 12th, 500) Paul McErvale (10th, 1696) and Jim Murphy (18th, 280).

The single stroke event on Saturday was the final round of the club championships. 

Gavan Tellefson scored 70 to win A Grade from Leonard and Keith Williams (both 71).

In B Grade, Rod Truman (70) claimed victory over Wayne Dahmes (71) and Robin Hubble (74). 

NTPs were: Wayne Brice (first, 231), Ivan Robinson (second, 500, and the pig prize went to Peter Cottrell, 500), Robert Young (10th, 1280), Tom Crouch (12th, 1150) and Tomas Ferguson (18th, 230).

A field of 34 Mildura veteran gentlemen played their usual single Stableford on Monday in perfect weather. 

The runaway winner was Brian Murphy (42) ahead of Alan Steedman (37) and, after a three-way countback, John Williams (34) was third.

NTPs were: Graeme Polkinghorne (second, 400) and Murphy (12th, 500 cm).

WEDNESDAY’S men’s Stableford drawn partners best score was Russell Saunders (41).

Saunders and Darren Murnane (77) defeated runners-up Ivan McKenzie and Patrick Nunan (71) on countback with third going to Jeff Stewart and Vince Dicheria.

The ladies’ Stableford drawn partners best score went to Suellen Nunan (39).

Drawn partners winners: Nunan and Ellen Cashmore (71). Runners-up: Helen Barnes and Bev Hutchins (66).

Tim Nunan (17) won Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford from Elizabeth Solich (16).

Saturday’s stroke monthly medal:

Men A Grade: Winner: Philip Matotek 77-7-70. Runner-up: James Daly 72-1-71. Third: Dicheria 81-10-71.

B Grade: Winner: John Thompson 89-17-72. Runner-up: Bruce Summerfield 86-14-72.  Third: David Lewin 89-16-73.

C Grade: Winner: Jeff Stewart 90-19-71 nett. Runner-up: Ian Perks 95-20-75. Third: Kevin Browning 111-35-76.

NTPs were: Edward Parker (third, 210), Larry Frasca (seventh, 78), Neil Bryant (11th, 199) and Craig Gursansky (18th, 425).

The ladies’ stroke monthly award winner was Elizabeth Solich (95-24-71) from Carol Zimmermann (82-9-73).

NTPs were: Nia Whittle (third, 27, and  11th, 675), Solich (seventh, 150) and Zimmermann (18th, 180).

Sunday’s Stableford winner was Aldo D’amico (37) by a point from David Britton.

RED CLIFFS

A BIG day for the ladies with the Chicken and Champagne Day last Wednesday. Eighty in the field was an excellent number and all members and visitors enjoyed the day.

The winners were Suzanne Johns and Fay Ross with a wonderful score of 51 points from Sally Jones and Sheryleen McGlashan (47), Lea Walmsley and Liz Leach (45) and Margaret Stanbrook and Janet Stanbrook (also 45).

NTPs were: Kath Loosley (third), Elaine Gray (eighth), Jones (12th), Lorraine Palmer (15th) and Janet Stanbrook (17th).

Thursday was the men’s competition day last week. Michael Hogan (38) was the winner from Bill Woosnam (37) on countback from Al Rayner.

NTPs were: Al Rayner (eighth), Jeffrey Scott (15th) and Neil Wilkie (18th).

Saturday was mOnthly medal stroke for the ladies and men.

The ladies’ medal went to Julie Warne (71), just ahead of Denise Morgan (72) in a five-way countback.

NTPs were: Dee Hopkins (third), Deb Hassell (fifth), Bobbie Ramsay (eighth), Di Morrall (11th), Liz Leach (15th) and Chris Taylor (17th).

The men’s monthly medal winner in A Grade was Tom Minns (72) from Alistair Rayner (73),

In B Grade, Dwaine White (73) won from Walter Graham (75), on countback.

NTPs were: Ian Doering (third), Steve Farley (eighth), Affie Ganz (ninth and 15th), Rayner (17th) and Graham (18th).

WENTWORTH

WELL, spring has sprung, at least for one day.

Thursday’s Stableford event went to the accountant Ron Moore (39). Runner-up Ged Chapman, desperately trying to improve his handicap from 22, had 36.

NTP was: Bill Murray (17th, 374). Mr Risky was Jeff Robinson (18 points).

MERBEIN

WINDY conditions at the weekend did not affect Lucas Phelps’ game, shooting a 67 to win his first game and monthly medal over Roger Walder (69).

Wednesday’s winner was D. Forman (38) over H. McGaffin (36).

NTPs were: Forman (eight, 522) and M. Cook (12th, 200).

Saturday’s victor was Lucas Phelps (101-67) over Walder (80-69).

NTPs were: G. Marshall (third, 495), M. Thomson (sixth, 390, 14th890, and 16th, 710) and Cook (12th, 405).
Coming events: Today: Stableford. Saturday: Stableford.

RIVERSIDE

ONE of Riverside’s long-time members, Don MacGregor, passed away on August 27. 

Don was highly respected gentleman who will be sadly missed by many.

The ladies played Stableford on Tuesday with Liz Wallace (36) winning from Val Berry (34).

NTPs were: Kaye Ballantyne (12th, 293) and Marie Hudak (18th, 225).

The men’s game on Wednesday was also Stableford and played in two grades.

Jamie Donaldson (37) grabbed top spot in A Grade from George Riordan (36).

John Orange came in with the round of the day, producing an sensational 42 and a comfortable win, in front of three vying for second place, all on 39.

Max Watt was our runner-up, followed by Ken Hornsby and Michael Nott.

NTPs were: Glenn Butterworth (fourth, 166), John Fraser (seventh, 480), Michael Holcroft (12th, 605) and Ken Upton (18th, 200).
Margaret Craig (15) won the ladies’ nine-hole comp on Thursday.

The 18-hole comp on Thursday was monthly medal and putting and saw an extremely happy Lauris Hicks come away with her first medal after an excellent (110-69). It was a countback for the placings with June Hensgen (106-71) just pipping Gaye Briggs (107-71) for second.

The greens had been cored during the week, but this didn’t hold Lorraine Palmer back from a win, finishing with a pleasing 29 putts.

NTPs were: Wallace (fourth, 376), Meg Hamence (seventh, 360), Jen Leach (12th, a birdie) and Roz Nash (18th, 10).

Friday’s shocking weather reduced the field in the nine-hole medley Stableford, but Brad Winslow made the most of his fine  19 to win from another Winslow, Peter (16).

The ladies’ monthly award and putting was held on Saturday  with a countback determining the placings. Super scores from both with Wendy Dawson’s (89-70) winning over runner-up Janet Luke (86-70).

Dawson also won the putting comp with a very nice 29. 

NTPs were: Lyn Saunder (fourth, 815), Tracy Bryan (seventh, 495), Luke (12th, 44) and Gaye Briggs (18th, 76).

Saturday saw the men playing for their monthly medals in three grades and with some brilliant scores.

Matthew Giessauf showed he has what it takes, winning the A Grade medal with an exceptional (78-68), well in front of the field.  Kendal Marchment (80-74) was runner-up and Michael Holcroft (85-76) third.

Tezza Simpson also snuck in with a fantastic 68 net after his 84 off the stick to win the medal in B Grade. Darren Gray (85-72) was second and Claude Dawson (88-74) third.

The best score of the day, came in C Grade from Cliff Cooke, with a mighty (98-67) to take home the medal. 

Kevin Eastwood only missed by one after he put together an outstanding round (97-68) to be runner-up. Brian Young (97-72) snatched third on countback from Ken Hornsby (95-72).

NTPs were: Giessauf (fourth, 95), Paul Reed (seventh, 550), Ian Dickason (17th, 290) and Seb Raiti (18th, 515).

Sunday’s medley Stableford came down to a battle between Gavin Minter and Bryn Shaw (both 37). Minter emerged with the better back nine to win.
