THOUSANDS of Murray cod fingerlings were released into the river last week by the Wentworth Angling Club.

Fish breeder Gavin Maynard said the initiative was a great step towards sustaining fish populations in the area.

"They let go about $2000 worth, so about 2000 Murray cod, and they’ve done this off their own back, using funds the club had raised," he said.
