HUNDRERDS, possibly thousands of grey-headed flying foxes arrived at Dareton a couple of weeks ago, but why remains a mystery.

Dr Sarah Frith from Melbourne Zoo said it's rare for flying foxes to travel this far inland and can only speculate why the mammals are wintering by the Murray.
