Red Cliffs market back up and running

THE Red Cliffs Country Market will return this month.

After restrictions saw the market cancelled in August and September, the committee is excited to be back hosting the monthly event.

Publicity officer Dianne Dalla Santa said more than 100 stalls were expected to line the streets of Red Cliffs on Sunday.

"There will be lots of plant stalls, lots of dried fruit and nut, all the sort of things people like to get their hands on at this time of year," she said.

"Christmas is coming, everyone wants to start baking so there will be plenty of produce and bits and pieces that people have been missing out on getting since July.

"The speciality shops will also be open, which is another great thing for the community and it's good for them, too, they have done the hard yards with the lockdowns and not being able to open."

Restrictions remain in place, which Ms Dalla Santa said would be enforced.

"We will be encouraging any visitors and stallholders to wear their masks, we ourselves will set up lots of QR code and sanitiser stations and we will have a fleet of people wearing our distinctive market jackets, who will be there to answer questions and provide gentle reminders that there are restrictions and they need to be stuck to," she said.

"We are unable to put out the additional tables and chairs around the food area ... but we will be having our fantastic food stallholders there again.

"We urge people to come along, enjoy the market, stick to all the COVID restrictions and then we will have a really good chance we can bring the market to them again in November and December."

Ms Dalla Santa said those wanting to make the most of their time at the market were encouraged to bring three things.

"You need to bring your masks and wear them, you need to bring your shopping bags and, at the moment, you would be wise to bring additional cash," she said.

"We used to have three teller machines in Red Cliffs but we now only have one since the Commonwealth Bank has closed - there may not be enough cash to go around."

The Red Cliffs Country Market will be held in the Red Cliffs CBD from 9am to 1pm on Sunday.

Along with the market, the Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway will also be operating.

The train will be in operation from 11am to 3.30pm - bookings are essential.
