ORGANISERS of the Merbein Community Rodeo, usually held on the second Saturday in October, have postponed the event for the second time due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
Rodeo president Jeff Muller said that due of the uncertainty of travel restrictions with other states there was no guarantee interstate competitors could attend the event.
Mr Muller said that, in turn, gave the committee no confidence it could provide a quality event for patrons.
He said that while this decision was regrettable, the committee and supporters of the annual event would now focus on providing a “top-class event” when able to do so.
Organisers had deferred the 2020 rodeo until this year.
Mr Muller said at the time there was no option due to likely government COVID-19 restrictions on spectator numbers and border closures.
“Many of our competitors travel from interstate to compete in our annual event, which is part of the Rodeo Services Australia circuit,” Mr Muller said.
“While the committee of the Merbein Community Rodeo was disappointed that the deferment of the event would also impact many other local businesses and community organisations, it is looking forward to working with sponsors and suppliers in 2021,” he said.
As many as 2000 spectators have attended the event in recent years.
