Hopes remain high for Mildura Pink Ball date

THIS year’s Pink Ball Ladies Day was supposed to be the biggest yet.

More than 160 tickets had been sold for the popular event, which previously had attracted on average 70 to 80 women, before it was again postponed thanks to Thursday’s lockdown announcement.

The event is now slated to go ahead on August 21.

“We’re really keen to this event to go ahead, and the people who have bought tickets are really keen for it to still go ahead on a different date,” Pink Ball committee member Lydia Sinclair said.

Ms Sinclair said the event, which raises funds for Sunraysia Cancer Resources, has become a tradition for many local women.

“It’s an intergenerational event, with people attending who have just turned 18, to women in their 80s,” she said.

“There is a wide range of ladies who go — it’s their thing they just do to get together.

“Some have been touched by breast cancer and that is their motivation, but for a lot it’s about reconnecting with women who are important to them.

“We just want the event to go ahead and allow the ladies in our community who’ve made this a traditional event … to be able to still have that day to look forward to.”

The 2021 event was initially postponed from June, as restrictions at the time did not allow for dancing and mingling.

Ms Sinclair was optimistic the latest restrictions would lift so the rescheduled event could go ahead as hoped.

“People who were going said they really wanted it to go ahead but they really wanted to dance so people are wanting something fun to look forward to,” Ms Sinclair said.

“Everything’s crossed for us to have the event on the 21st of next month. We’re very positive.”
