ONE of Australia’s most unique athletes, Sharni Layton, will be appearing at the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club on Wednesday, June 30.
The former Australian Diamonds netball captain and recently retired Collingwood AFLW player made her name as a hard-nosed but fun-loving athlete, bringing her personality to the fore.
With her book No Apologies now available, the star athlete will appear at the Coomealla Club for a Q&A dinner next week, as well as hosting netball coaching clinics at Dareton’s George Gordon Oval during the day.
Over 15 years, Layton made her name as a tenacious defender on the netball court, finishing her career having played in more than 140 domestic matches, winning two premierships with the Adelaide Thunderbirds and claiming a player of the year award in 2016.
Add to this 47 matches for Australia with two International Player of the Year awards, two gold medals from the Netball World Championships and a Commonwealth Games gold.
Following her netball retirement, Layton followed many other female athletes in giving Aussie Rules a go. She played three seasons at AFLW level for Collingwood as their main ruck, playing 23 games and earning All Australian honours in 2020.
Tickets can be purchased for both events from the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club. To book phone club reception on (03) 5027 4505 or go online to www.coomeallaclub.com.au.
